The Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar is one of the most popular incarnations of the renowned Gibson SG. It takes the best of the '62 original and adds the longer and sturdier neck joint of the late '60s models. All the classic features you'd expect from a historic guitar. Hot humbuckers go from rich, sweet lightning to warm, tingling waves of sustain. A silky-fast rosewood fretboard plays like a dream. The original-style beveled mahogany body looks like a million bucks. Plus, Tune-O-Matic bridge and chrome hardware. Limited lifetime warranty. Includes hardshell case.

A Little SG History
In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

Outstanding Instrument

This guitar is absolutely amazing. The day I picked one up I knew I just had to have one. Bought it a while ago once I finally got enough money. The finish is stunning in either color, but the red they're putting on it now looks way too light for me... almost an orange. I have black, and it is outstandingly beautiful. the neck is thick but plays like butter in your hands. It is lightweight and comfortable. But the best part is the immensely beautiful tones you can get out of this guitar. You can make it cry, sing, growl, screech, squeal, roar, and scream. I'm amazed at how versatile it really is; I play rock, blues, and metal, but you can get great tones for almost anything out of this guitar. I highly recommend this awesome guitar. It just oozes quality and class.

i got this guitar used about 2 months ago. this guitar was made april 15 2003 at nashville ( i got that from the serial number) and it is an awesome guitar. the only problems ive hade with it, is that it has a little fret buzz, but nothing major. every guitar ive played has buzz, and it doesnt bother me. also to volume knob for the neck pickup fell off, but a little elmers glue fixed that. and for the people saying this neck has terrible playability issues, and cant slide very good, im just going to let them know that they arent supposed to put glue on the fretboard! mine plays absolutely amazing, and since it has been played for 7 years, it is nice and broken in. and the wide or fat neck doesnt affect me because i have pretty big hands and long fingers, but if you have small hands, dont buy this guitar. gibsons tend to have wide necks. anyway. for me, this is the guitar of my dreams.

great guitar. not really sure how it sounds unless it's 20 years old cause i play my friend's SG all the time. that guitar has been throught countless bands, meny dings dents scratches, and what not. but if it still sounds good after all those years, gibson must be doing some thing right! keep it up Gibson!!!

Well what can I say that hasn't already been said? Like the last reviewer was saying, there IS a major difference between Gibson and Epiphone models. I have been playing for five years and my first guitar was an Epiphone G-310 which did the job when I was learning. However, once you begin to be able to play properly, something like the G-310 just doesn't really cut it. The hardware begins to break, and the pickups start to pack-it-in big time. So I decided to spoil myself and finally buy my dream guitar: the GIBSON SG, and wow, did I feel the difference. The neck is super fast and feels like butter when you play. The pickups and just so crisp and sharp, clean or dirty, and the finish is just superb. Things like the cream bound neck and the mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays make this guitar extra-special. It is also incredibly lightweight-which I personally like compared to the much heavier Les Paul. So all in all, yeah, its a fantastic guitar. Sure, it is quite pricey but hey, you do get THE best (and they're quite cheap in the States compared to the RRP in Australia). If your playing on an old, falling-apart, run-down guitar, buy one of these beauties-and don't look back!

Excelent Guitar

First, I must say that I am a strat man who happens to own this SG and the Epi Sg with EMGs. There is a difference between Gibson and epiphone and to the Guys who do not see the difference in quality labor and hardware, then buy an epiphone. Some people did not see the difference in paint quality, hardware durability, pickups, the guitar top and yes you do pay for the gibson name I agree. But try to resell and epiphone and try to resell a gibson. There is a difference. This Sg is really creamy to play like a smoldering babe about to erupt in your hands. The epi is practical but more like a pretender than the real thing ask Frank Zappa, Townsend, Clapton, and a host of others play gibson not epiphones. Still I like fenders a little better.
