The Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar is one of the most popular incarnations of the legendary Gibson SG. It takes the best of the '62 original and adds the longer and sturdier neck joint of the late '60s models. All the classic features you'd expect from a historic guitar. Hot humbuckers go from rich, sweet lightning to warm, tingling waves of sustain. A silky-fast rosewood fretboard plays like a dream. The original-style beveled mahogany body looks like a million bucks. Plus, Tune-O-Matic bridge and chrome hardware. Limited lifetime warranty. Includes hardshell case.

A Little SG History
In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

Unbelievable Guitar

I used to use a Jackson DK2 Dinky as my main guitar but when I got this SG the Jackson took a major backseat! First, the pups in this baby are unbelievable; the 496T is bright, clear and loud even with heavy distortion and the 490R gets low and dirty. Pups clean up nicely too and 490R works well with a lil chorus. I was quite surprised with the speed of the neck; since it has a finished back on it large slides in powerchords can be a lil tricky but everything else is razor quick. Mahogany body makes for BEAUTIFUL tone. I gave price a 4.5 cuz it's a lil pricey but if you look at other American made guitars (like American Standard Tele) it's the same price so it really isn't bad. If you want quality you're going to pay. I have it in Heritage Cherry finish and if nothing else I could mount it just to stare at it! Heritage Cherry finish is the ONLY way to go, both aesthetically and for tradition. If you have the money get this guitar NOW! You can't possibly be dissapointed!!

This guitar is definately eye candy, but its also the same incredible solid body it always was. I suggest you know the difference between humbucking and single coil pickups before you buy one though. What can the likes of me possibly add to the credit of the Gibson SG. Incredible Power, Incredible midrange, Incredible attack. At this price its a no brainer.

This is a wonderful guitar! I've had it for about two weeks and I'm loving it. I play through a Line 6 Spider stack and the tone is great. I've always wanted an SG but never had the dough. So, I finally saved up enough to buy one. I prefer the heritage cherry finish on mine. In my opinion, the ebony is sleek while the heritage cherry is exquisite. The pickups are great for rock, blues, and if you EQ it right, you can get some nice and heavy metal tones. The neck feels amazing. It's really easy to bend the strings. There's only one con I have for this guitar, the price! Even lowering it a little bit would be nice. Overall, this is a great guitar and I recommend you buy it if you have the money.

this was one of my dreams guitars, and i finally bought it. I have played nothing but fenders. I own a Jazzmaster, 2 strats and a telecaster. I thought it was about time to have a Gibson join the family. Well...I wish I thought it over a little more, because now i realize why I have played fenders my entire life...

If you are considering purchasing this guitar know this: If you put even a little distortion on the guitar it will come out crunchy and fuzzy (the only accurate way I can describe is that it will not play each note whenever I play a chord) it just sounds like a giant "fuzzball" of noise. YOU WILL WANT NEW PUPS!

However it does look like a piece of art.

tuners arnt that great either..if you like the single coil sound play it safe and stick with it. I wish i hadnt spent all that money on such a dissapointment.

Love it man! Great for blues, rock, and metal, and at least fair for jazz. Gets sweet bluesy tones through my Marshall. Great neck, and a lightweight comfortable body. Looks amazing in every finish. I prefer Black, most of the Cherry finishes are too light, not deep and rich enough. Simply Amazing
