The Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar is one of the most popular incarnations of the legendary Gibson SG. It takes the best of the '62 original and adds the longer and sturdier neck joint of the late '60s models. All the classic features you'd expect from a historic guitar. Hot humbuckers go from rich, sweet lightning to warm, tingling waves of sustain. A silky-fast rosewood fretboard plays like a dream. The original-style beveled mahogany body looks like a million bucks. Plus, Tune-O-Matic bridge and chrome hardware. Limited lifetime warranty. Includes hardshell case.

A Little SG History
In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

Gibson SG Standard

I bought this guitar in September '09 already knowing that Gibson makes the finest guitars period. I have to say I felt cheated for not owning this guitar for so long, even though I have a crappy amp in my room I plugged it in and it even made the piece of junk on my floor gleam with power and tone. The 490r and 498t pickups can mimic an acoustic sound and with the simple application of distortion and the flick of a swith can put out grinding AC/DC like tones that make the hair on your neck bristle. The action is so fast that it can out do the infamous Gibson Les Paul Custom aka the "Fretless Wonder". My only real gripe with it is the price, I realize that Gibson is a well respected name but we're in a recession get real. another thing that kinda bugs me is that this model is not available equipped with a Gibson Maestro Vibrola, and the part isn't even on Gibson's catalog as far as I can tell. Overall this is one of the best guitars in the world and I strongly advise those with the money to consider getting one if it fits your style, I've long been a fan of Gibson but this guitar makes the name sparkle in my mind.

Ive been playing since the early 70's. I've owned many L P's and other top guitars. I have finally found the perfect guitar in the SG. I don't know why I never tried one before. It is light, plays excellent, and is made very well. The stock pups are OK, but after I install a set of Duncan 59's or Dimarzio's this thing will sound awesome. I will be getting more SG's and using different pups in them. Truly a fun guitar to play.

This guitar sounds great, plays great, and looks fantastic. I could stare at it for hours. It can go from biting tones, to nice warm and smooth sustain. Although, I would like it to be just a tad less expensive, but I understand why they have it at this price, it is just a work of art!
