Antique Red Light Caramel Burst Size Comparison Antique Red, Back Antique Vintage Sunburst Antique Red, Close Angle

The ES-339 is the next generation from the Custom Shop of Gibson's iconic ES electric guitars. It goes where no guitar has gone before with a bold, new semi-hollow tone that is rich with expressive, even stinging, overtones. The ES-339 has some exciting enhancements including Memphis Tone electronics, the 30/60 slender neck profile, and reduced dimensions and weight.

Memphis Tone electronics Memphis Tone circuitry utilizes 500K audio taper pots that operate with an interactive load that preserves high end as you turn down the volume. The loading effect preserves the full-bodied tone with rich midrange and singing sustain from the '57 Classic humbuckers while adding a very sweet bite. Another difference is the volume is very smooth, rolling off in even increments along with the numbers on the knobs. Since they operate more like how we hear (logarithmically), the controls work the way the player thinks they should. So when the guitarist turns down the volume the highs are still there!

30/60 Neck Developed in assistance from guitar guru Jon Schwartz. The 30/60 slender neck is a '60s style neck with an extra .030" front-to-back to preserve the semi-hollowbody tone, sustain, and feel while providing smooth playability (The rounded '59 neck profile is also available on the ES-339 '59 Neck - product #515255).

Reduced dimensions and weight The ES-339 builds on the success of the semi-hollowbody guitars first introduced by Gibson in 1958 with the ES-335. Lighter and more compact than a traditional semi-hollow guitar, the ES-339 retains the distinct semi-hollowbody electric tone that powered so many hit records and landmark performances.

Outer rim output jack Here's one ES players have been wanting: The output jack is mounted on the outer rim. No more cable crossing the body, spoiling the guitar's clean looks and and getting in your way.

Two '57 Classic Humbuckers with 3-way pickup selection plus individual volume and tone controls provide the incredibly versatile sounds that make the semi-hollow electric famous for its use in jazz, rock, blues, country, and nearly every other style you can think of. Quality Kluson tuners keep retuning time to a minimum, and nickel hardware enhances the great looks.

To show off its vintage vibe, the ES-339 is available in a choice of three finishes: Antique Cherry, Antique Vintage Sunburst, and Light Caramel Burst. The lacquer finish is applied with a light, even touch, allowing the guitar's wood to resonate naturally while providing a protective, mirror-like shine. The Antique Cherry and Antique Vintage Sunburst both come with aged bindings to further enhance the proud ES tradition.

The ES-339 comes with a Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity.

ES-339 -- makes me a better player.

I play a little of everything, and this guitar can handle just about anything, except of course metal. The easiest playing guitar I have ever played, hands down, and I've play many in my 40 years of playing -- vintage Fenders and Gibsons -- all of the good stuff. This guitar, thru a really good amp, has the most mind-blowing tone. A joy to play. I got mine (barely) used, and am considering buying another (red) here thru MF. Everyone I jam with is floored by this guitar, and so am I, every time I play it. Try one and you'll be hooked.

I just purchased my 339 from MF and after owning it for a week I can't find anything I don't like about this guitar. Super fast neck, great action, excellent sustain and a great value from MF and Gibson. I have played for over 50 years and hope I am playing for another 50 now that I've found the perfect guitar. Now I won't be lugging around 4 guitars to our gigs.... I still might lug around one of my LP's..... The only thing I might do to this guitar is remove the covers from the pick-ups to get a little more bite. Nahhhhhhhh They look too good... I'll just bring my mid and treble up a bit more. Buy this guitar before the price goes through the roof ! ! You won't be sorry. Larry C

Gibson 339 is a Jazz Machine in disguise!!

I am a Jazz player with 40 yrs. playing experience. I was looking for a guitar to replace my need for 3 guitars with one. Originally I started looking for a Pat Martino Model Gibson with no real luck. I looked at the specs, price playability and sound and fell in love with the 339. It takes the place of my Fender Tele, 68 LP, my 1969 335. The sound is wonderful for that clean yet punchy Jazz tone. The build and finish are spectacular and the pup's are just the ticket. I bought it with the intention of changing the new pups out for a set of real PAF's, NO NEED!!! I am a Happy, Happy player and recomend that everyone consider this guitar if you are considering anything from a Gibson 335, Les Paul or Fender Telecaster. The 339 in the hands of the late Joe Pass would have been the ticket over the ES 175, IMHO. Both are laminate guitars and feed-back is NOT a problem. One last comment. It is also a tone monster if you want it to be. It is a Great R&R guitar also. You cannot go wrong with this gibson 339, I now have a new #1 go to guitar!!! You owe it to yourself to give it a testdrive. I use 11 guage strings or higher. Remember many Great players use 13's. So be sure to check it out!!!

WELL IT IS WHAT IT IS

I got the antique sunburst. I have seen about 6 of these in stores. Finally gave in. Has a nice aged look. Added the gold Gibson speed knobs to it. Not sure what the nut is. Looks plastic. May bone it and coffee stain it to match the rest of the aged look later. I've heard the finish on these goes from crap to good. Mine is GOOD. Same for intonation. Mine was dead on. REALLY! If yours is not for crap sake take a screwdriver to the saddles and adjust it. The bridge pickup is parallel to the strings. The neck pickup is angled? It seems to be OK sound wise. The saddle is at an angle as some have mentioned. Well MAYBE it is suppose to be that way. Intonation is dead on, go figure. I compared sound wise to a 335, a few Les Pauls, SG with P-90s, SG with humbuckers, Epiphone's, Ibanez and every semi-hollow body in the store. Kept coming back to this one for tone and neck comfort. I found the 335 a bit big. The 30/60 neck is comfortable. The 59 neck seemed a tiny bit fatter. I play too agressive for 10's so I put 13's Nickel wounds on it. Had to adjust the neck accordingly. I don't care for the binding coming up to the ends of the frets but on mine it is slight. More of Gibson cutting corners to save a buck and they probably don't have anyone there that knows how to dress frets in the "Custom" shop. It wasn't enough issue to stop me from buying it however. Just something you have to live with now with Gibson quality. I've had LP's that will bloody you hand running it up the neck. When you buy a Gibson you need to know how to finish up frets and do setups. Buy some fret honey for the fretboard. It is dry. Other than that I really like the sound and comfort overall. It's cheaper than the 335's at the moment, something to consider. And to me it sounds better with the 57s in it. The case fits it nicely. Its medium quality. But nothing else is available at the moment. I play old blues not the distorted stuff, and a bit of jazz blues. No pedals, in Fender tube amps. 5, 15, and 22 watts depending on the gig. I don't agree with the price Gibson puts on their below par quality stuff but hopefully yours will be a nice one as mine is. It IS one sweet sounding guitar.

I have the es-339 in antique red with the 30/60 neck. I bought this beauty about a month or two ago. It is the most amazing thing I have ever played. Right out of the box I plugged it straight into my Mesa Dual Rectifier Trem-o-verb and I was amazed. AMAZING NECK. The tones I achieved with this guitar are unparalleled by anything else out there. Even with the stock strings that were probably on there for a while this guitar wailed!!! I almost wept at the greatness.
