THE BEST GIBSON 4 THE $

I first saw this guitar in a music store and picked it up and could not leave the store without it. The guitar is pretty much just a stripped down standard for a lot less cash and plays just the same or better. The sound is impeccable and the action is great. I have used it in many gigs with my band and it wails. I own many other guitars like fender and prs but this is my favorite. I strongly recommend you buy it.

I'm not a big time guitarist by any stretch, but at college I lived with a hair band addict who owned a Fender Strat. Accross the hall however lived a metal head like myself with a LP Special with a natural finish. Everybody keeps harping on how its not that great looking of a guitar. I on the other hand think it is far more attractive than most other Gibsons. The simplicity of it is what makes it so beautiful. The single cut is more appealing to me than the double of an SG and the flat top "slab" look of the special/junior make them special as far as LP's go. And of course the 490/498 combination hooked up to a marshall gives it the nastiest screaming metalcore sound that you will never find in a Fender or many other guitars. Two thumbs way up.

First Les Paul

If you've never had a Les Paul, this is your guitar.

Mainly because it's affordable, and it's Gibson quality, this guitar is bound to get plenty of affection and playing time out of you. Since its arrival, the only time I touched any of my other guitars was for a sound comparison.

Whether you've never played one and are looking for a les paul just to see if you like it, or if you want a cheaper guitar that you can not worry so much about, this is the one. The insides are top notch, the outsides a little less than perfect, bringing the total price down around half, and really, it's what's inside that makes the Les Paul.

Features: 9 -no whammy, but pickup selectors and individual volume/tone knobs for each pickup.

Quality: 9 -nice, but less than perfect. especially by Gibson's standards.

Value: 10 -At that price, you won't find better. Guarenteed

Overall: 10 -All things considered, 10/10.

I was a little skeptical when I saw a Gibson Les Paul for this price, but as soon as I got it all those doubts went away. It sounds every bit as good as any other LP I’ve played. Playing it through my Marshall MG250 I can rattle the entire house. My former #1 guitar was a Fender fat Strat (which I still love) but I can see myself giving my Gibson some hardcore playing time.

great guitar for the money

The Les Paul Special SL is a great guitar for the money... especially at the prices here on this site. It is lightweight and sounds great. The finish is much better than the really cheesy faded finishes on similarly priced guitars. When these are gone there won't be much selection in reasonably priced Les Pauls with a glossy finish. Only caveat was that it came out of the box with the worst setup I've ever seen. The action and stopbar had to be seriously lowered and the intonation was thus noticeably off. A tweak of the trussrod was needed, too. It was virtually unplayable until all those things were performed and I didn't know for at least the first day whether or not it was worth keeping. Once it was setup correctly, it certainly proved to be worth it.
