Resurrecting one of the most popular electric guitars in Gibson's history, the Melody Maker is an accurate, affordable re-creation of the original Melody Makers of the late 1950s.
Originally introduced as a student model, much like the Les Paul Junior, the Melody Maker became a player's favorite for its light weight, comfortable neck, and great tone.
Today's Melody Maker Les Paul guitar is no exception. With a slim, light, mahogany body and set mahogany neck; period-correct pickguard housing a special design single-coil pickup; vintage-style wraparound tailpiece; rounded neck profile, and rosewood fingerboard; the Melody Maker is an unbelievable value for players of all ages, styles, and skill levels.

This is a great little rig, dont think you have to spend all your savings to get something your proud to own that also has a satisfying tone.
To give you a little background, part of my current collection consist of the following Gibsons: 1986 Custom LP w/Tim Shaw pups, Slash Goldtop, 81 Standard LP, 91 Classic LP, 2007 Robot LP, Couple of mid 90 Studios, etc.
This Melody Maker has a nice thin finish that feels good and is very light and easy to play for hours. The neck profile is slim and the frets are a joy to play on. While I love my Slash neck profile I like this one better. I have mine set with some pretty low action (higher than most of my others) and no issues.
I list the features at 5. Its a simple guitar that works fantastic within its own features.
Getting different tones with this single pickup is really simple, turn down the tone knob or volume, simply (key word) blissful. Im amazed how good the guitar resonates acoustically, this translates into some real nice sustain when plugged in.
I suggest you do a couple upgrades mine has an adjustable Wilkinson Aluminum bridge, Green russian Paper and oil tone capacitor.
Punk, Blues, Rock, this guitar can handle all this and more. Save yourself a ton of cash, instead of buying the overpriced LP buy this guitar, heck use the money you save to buy a better tube amp.
You wont regret this purchase. Im sure Ill buy another very soon, I need at least two for gigs!

The one thing I did not comment on in my last review for this Gibson Melody Maker that I feel should be addressed is the finish.
It still holds that great look too it, but it's a bit different. There is no inch thickness of clear lacquer to protect the paint, not even a thin one. Instead you feel just the raw wood and paint, which can be very nice for people like me. I Personally enjoy the 'vintage' look such as Fenders Roadworn Series. So when I barely bump something and it leaves a nice dent that is to be expected, there is NO protection over this baby.

I have owned one of these for about a year now, and I am still completely satisfied with my purchase. The finish is dry and not glossy in the least, but the guitar plays and sounds very well. This is a very basic guitar, only 1 pickup and 1 volume and tone control. The guitar is very light weight too. My only complaint is that the stock strap buttons are junk, they are way too small for the guitar to stay secured by a strap. Sure, you can get a more versatile guitar for this amount of cash, but it will not be U.S. made. If you just need a little guitar that plays great and sounds good to beat around on, this is your ticket! If you do not own any other guitar as of yet, this is not the best guitar if you have a musical taste outside of classic rock, but it does what it does very well.

This summer I was saving up for a good guitar. Finaly, I decied to get a standard strat in white, like Jimi's. But apparently they all disapered, cause I check like 5 stores looking for 1 and NONE of them had one.So I looked in my magazine(i take it every where lol) and saw this guitar. When I was like 10 that was my favorite guitar in the book, so I ordered it. THE BEST GUITAR EVER! It has a great neck and a great pickup. It weighs les than my squier bullet strat and plays 1000 times better! A perfect guitar for some one wanting a good guitar @ agood price.
