It's a great unit. The finish, not the paint job, the fit/finish is a bit quick on it. However, has nothing to do with playability. I like the paint job, I have the Yellow. And, it's not worn away, it's just a matte thin coat. In the Yellow, count on the dings showing well, and quickly... but not a negative. It feels great, not like a plastic bat. I don't like that I can see rasp file marks, and neck to body fit is tight enough, not perfect/ perfect though, however I (as builder myself) see some final would work, not done--even at this price, it should be done. The $200 imports do--jeeze. Anyway, the positives: more sustain than from my Les Paul with Burst Bucker Alinco 5's, or my SG with a dirtyfingers PUP at the bridge. I was very shocked. And the distortion, was smooth and clean, well articulated, amazing. Neck PUP was not muddy, and really could play lead happily from the neck. As well, it came, (first one ever), perfectly setup, and was in a sealed factory box too. The Nut action was as low as it could go; action lower than 5/64's at the 12th fret, perfect 1mm forward bow... just dump founded indeed. The neck, is not much slimmer than my 50's neck LP... I like it. It's just slightly flatter on the back of the neck. Aside from lowering the PUPs so did not hit the strings, just played it for a few hours. But, for any more money, they would absolutely have to do perfect wood work fit/finish... jeeze Gibson.
Good to Excellent Value

I was looking for a Gibson with a set of P-90s to complement the HB pickups on my other Gibsons (490s, '57s, and Burstbuckers). Played a Goldtop LP standard with P-90s, then a Heritage H-137 with Lollar's, and then one of these. The Standard was great but, $$$$. The Heritage holds its own and I actually liked the Lollar's the best - alot of guitar for the money. Of course, this guitar is not in the same league in terms of quality, sound, and to some extent, playability.
But for what I paid for this guitar, it will be a fun guitar to play out. My experience thus far has been consistent with most reviews here and on HC.
Had to "carefully" file some of the fret edges, the P-90s are noisy, but not considerably moreso than on a Strat or Tele. They do sound (to my ears) somewhere between the vintage noiseless I have on my Strat and Tele and the HBs on my other Gibsons. Lowered the PUs and then lowered the action. Wow, that's some gigbag, not much better than a piece of cellophane. Luckily, this guitar fits well in my 2005 LP standard case.
We will see how the finish wears. I got one (yellow) that shows a little greyish grain through on the front and back, but not that bare look seen on some examples.
Way Cool!

I have been playing for going on 35 years. This guitar is a TRUE working man's instrument. Know up front that P90 pickups are single coils so they are going to hum. It may need a little tweaking to get it right for the individual player. That is to be expected. I have had to make adjustments to every guitar I have owned. Bottom line is this guitar is "old school" 90 percent of the sound is in the player. You get outof it what you put into it. If you suck, you won't sound any better on a $2000 instrument than you will a $100 one.

This is a great guitar! Arrived in perfect condition, none of the problems others mentioned. It's lightweight, the neck is very thin front to back and quite flat as far as radius goes. The string tension is pretty tight compared to my Mahog. LP, but it plays great. P90's sound great like a fattened up singlecoil. The best qualities of single and humbucker combined. I completely recommend this guitar, the gig bag is weak and you need a hardcase, but it fits nicely into my LP case, so there ya' go. ROCK ON!
