All the sumptuous ingredients that made the Les Paul name great are in the Gibson Les Paul Classic Electric Guitar in spades: a skillfully carved maple top on a mahogany back perfectly joined to a mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, all powered by a 496R ceramic humbucker in the front and a 500T at the bridge. And the Classic goes a few steps farther with green tuning keys, amber top-hat knobs, plain cream pickguard, true '60s slim-tapered neck, and trapezoid fretboard inlays. Gold hardware on ebony; nickel hardware with all other finishes. Includes Gibson hardshell case.

Great Guitar!!!

I used to play Fender Stratocasters exclusively until last year when I picked up one of these babies. I really like the thin 60's neck which is similar to a Fender's but what really sold me was the crazy tone I got outta this thing. It sounds much better than the Les Paul Standards and Customs I have played which cost thousands more. I ended up getting one in heritage cherry sunburst right before they were discontinued, which I don't understand. My friends and I all think that it's probably one of the prettiest guitars we have seen. If you can get your hands on one of these beasts, do it, you will not regret it.

I own a Gibson les Paul Standard. Which I suppose the Classic may have replaced? But, I absolutely love my guitar. It has a beautiful finish, an amazing sound. If you want an excellent quality guitar, one with professional sound, and amazing action. Spend the extra money and get a Les Paul. You won't regret it. My next guitar is a Gibson SG G400, I am sold on Gibson products.

Les Paul Classic has a few limitations

I owned two Les Paul Classics for seven years, using one as my primary guitar and the other as a back up live. They were very different guitars, though both had trouble with the third string going way out of tune and both would get annoying low end microphonic feedback with high gain. They both played great. The plain finish sounded and played better than the sunburst. The pickups get thin sounding for leads and the single cut away is not handy for playing the small frets fast. Good for virtually every type of electric guitar music though.

My main axe.

I bought my cherry sunburst Les Paul Classic in 1997 and it has been my main guitar ever since. I have gone through many other guitars in this time but I will never let this one go. I usually play it through my Marshall JCM 2000 but it sounds good through any amp. Im thinking about buying another one in wine red. According to the Gibson web site, the Classic is discontinued so I'll probably regret not getting another one while their out there. If your not happy with this guitar you probably shouldn't be playing a Gibson. I also own a 1978 Les Paul Custom but I seem to pick up my Classic more often. I gave a 4.5 for quality only because the finish around the Gibson inlay and the binding has some cracking, but the guitar is over ten years old and has seen alot of abuse. Get one while you can.

Holy crap! This guitar is absolutely overflowing with classic gibson tone. And I'm not just saying that because I like gibsons, it is incredibly versatile and the closest thing you can get to standard by saving a couple extra 100s. Put this through pretty much any tube amp and you will be impressed. Even put it through decent solid states and it delivers rich tones. Now, if you have an old '59 plexi or other vintage tube amp in your basement, this is a no brainer. BUY IT TO ACHIEVE AMAZING TONE!!! NOW!!!!!!!
