The ultimate player's guitar with optimum playability, maximum access, and unparalleled tone. |
The Gibson Les Paul Axcess Standard is an electric guitar that carries all the elegant styling, fluid body lines, and rocking attitude of a classic Les Paul Standard from the golden era of 1958 to '60. The Les Paul Axcess reveals a handful of upgrades upon closer examination—all modifications made in the name of maximum playability and versatility. The most noticeable addition is the Floyd Rose tailpiece, a unit optimized for anything from subtle vibrato wobbles to dramatic, rumbling divebombs. Partnered with an R4 locking nut, it also guarantees outstanding tuning stability and return-to-pitch accuracy.
While the Axcess guitar sports what looks from the front to be a traditional Les Paul neck joint, the neck heel and portions of the back and neck joint at the upper cutaway have been contoured to provide a "heelless" feel and an unimpeded reach right up to the 22nd fret. No more stretching against the traditional neck heel to achieve the upper-fret access that your lead style demands—the Axcess guitar gives you that legendary Les Paul playability all the way up the neck, and welcomes you to take it right over the top.
To further enhance playing comfort, this smoothly carved neck joint is joined by a "belly scarf" (a.k.a. ribcage contour) that allows the body of the guitar to hug closely to your own body in the playing position without digging in. Add to these contours the Les Paul Axcess guitar's slightly thinner body, made from weight-relieved mahogany (with carved maple top), and you've also got a Les Paul guitar that is refreshingly light, and a pure joy to play either strapped on or seated.
Beyond all these significant considerations for playing feel, the Les Paul Axcess Standard is also geared toward optimum tone, as you'd expect from any Gibson Custom Shop creation. Exposed-coil BurstBucker 1 and BurstBucker 2 pickups in the neck and bridge positions—the most accurate reproduction vintage-PAF-style humbucker pickups Gibson has ever offered ‐ yield everything from warm, fluid vocal tones to fat, sweet growl. An added push/pull switch on the treble tone knob provides coil splitting for accurate single-coil tones. The combination excels at everything from singing classic rock lead tones, to contemporary crunch, to extremes of twang and jangle. Even the pure-nickel wound .010 Gibson Vintage Strings the Axcess guitar ships with contribute toward its rich, textured voice.
Being a product of the Gibson Custom Shop, the Les Paul Axcess is a guitar built to the highest standards attainable, which include a final set-up and fret dressing by the computer-controlled PLEK System.
All Les Paul Standard necks receive precision fret dressing and setup with the Plek system. As the guitar lies in a cradle, a computer-controlled robot arm moves along the neck measuring each fret's height, the fingerboard radius, even the bow in the neck. Using that data, the Plek machine adjusts the truss rod, cuts the nut slots for optimal spacing and height for each string, files each fret to a hundredth of a millimeter accuracy, and then polishes the frets. In a fraction of the time it takes a skilled technician, the Plek machine eliminates buzzing strings and dead spots, producing a neck with flawless intonation and superb action.
Each Gibson Les Paul Axcess Standard guitar also comes with a Custom Shop hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity.

A friend of mine bought a Les Paul 08 Standard. He brought it over to my studio and let me try it I liked it a lot. It sounded really nice thru my Soldano SLO100. But some was missing. So I went to Gibson's website and found the Axcess. It had what was missing for me a Floyd Rose. I ordered the guitar without playing one. The color of the one I have is Fire Tiger(trans red). A limited run color. I just love this guitar. My favorite in my collection. It sounds incredable and has awesome sustain. This thing stays in tune even after beating the heck out of the tremolo. My friend with the Les Paul standard said it plays more like his PRS than his Les Paul. I wasn't completely thrilled about the Burstbuckers though. I have since put in a Dimarzio Steve's Special in the bridge and Evolution in the neck. Now I have the perfect guitar for me. I sold 5 other guitars to pay for this one and I haven't looked back. I absolutely love this guitar.

Bought one of these in March 2009. I've always
been a Strat man, still am. Had a Les Paul
Standard bout 25 years ago and wasn't satisfied
at all. Some of my friends are die hard LP player/owners, and said i should get one. I looked long and hard for one that would fit the bill. The LP Axcess had the tremolo I wanted and I liked the trimmed down body contours. Against my better judgement, I bought this guitar without trying it. I must say overall, I'm satisfied with it. Gibson did a great job on filing down the sharp edges and removing the excess weight, without much change to the tone. Love the figured top with Ice Tea Burst. Not crazy bout the Burst Buckers though. I'm thinking bout having some WB hand wounds put in.
I Gave a value rating of less than five cause
I think it's a bit over-priced, all Gibsons for that matter. If you are looking for a LP with a
tremolo that stays in tune... "You Cant Beat a Floyd Rose". Despite the pain when adjusting them.

I had the pleasure of playing this guitar a few days ago. It played like a Les Paul with a Floyd rose. It was so out of tune, I couldn't play it cause I didn't have an allen wrench. Over all, would I pay full price for this guitar, no. If you do, your an idiot. I mean thirty five hundred dollars for a two thousand dollar guitar with a Floyd Rose? I mean Gibson needs to lower the price on all their guitars, and this one is no exception. Great guitar, easy shred, but not worth the money. Get a ESP LTD EC-1000 FR. Even comes with EMG's.

Sexy looks with a killer finish...

Over all a beautifully finished and thought out LP. The neck joint is like butter and the body contours are fantastic. The hollowed out body makes this axe really light, and not what I had expected next to my other 'Pauls. The coil tap is a nice feature and certainly varies the sound options, giving super cleans when needed at the sacrifice of output level. The pots are a little stiffer than I like, but that isn't something that a few hours of volume swells won't fix. The authentic Floyd stays in tune, and the looks fantastic (although it is silver, so it will eventually get pitted...I guess to age with the rest of the guitar!). My only gripe with thhe guitar are the pickups. Burst Buckers #1 and #2. They aren't hot enough for my set up as all my other guitars use EMGs. I won't be changing my entire setup for the gibson p/ups. Over all, a fantastic guitar with a well thought out body style.
BODY: 10/10 NECK: 11/10 <-- is that possible? based on an eighties profile neck with an easier access upper register! This may not be for everyone. STRINGS: Gibson vintage 10's (swapped out for EB 9's) so no comment. FLOYD: original, double locking PLEK SETUP: wasn't for me INCLUDES: COA, care kit, CS hard case, whammy, cable, instructions, literature.
