The Gibson Faded SG Special is an electric guitar that maintains the tradition of looks, functionality, and value for which the SG guitar is known. Under its attractive faded finish, the Faded Special SG is still the traditional SG, with mahogany body and neck, Tune-O-Matic/stopbar bridge, and alnico 490 pickups. The guitar's faded finish gives it the look of an electric that started its rockin' days in the '60s.

A Little SG History
In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that made the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist behind the original Les Paul did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to the end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

I bought this guitar about 3 years ago and it sounds even better with age. I love the lightweight body and the balance between the body and neck. It has great tone. I play through a marshall jcm 2000 and sounds amazing! I play mostly hard rock, rock, some metal, and reggae and fits for any type of these. Great feel, great sound, great price, great guitar. Period.

i was looking for a new guitar and tried everything from the hellraizer to the strat, but there is nothing like a good ol SG. for its price, its amazing. i find it more playable then the expensive modles, and as comfortable as a fender. you cant go wrong.

I originally bought this guitar two years ago in 2007 because of the low price tag. i immideiately fell in love with the look and how playable it is. The na week ago that guitar was stolen from me. i went back to guitar center and tested all the expensive models, since it was on my insurance's tab this time. however as soon as i picked this baby up again i forgot aobut those other guitars, even the les paul. Its an amazing guitar! A +++

I always wanted an SG but the price tag was crazy on the Standard and I like dot inlays & do not like super shiny finishes so here you go. I bought a 2004 model back in 2007ish. Later put new pups in it (custom made USA high output pickups from local guy) and OH YEAH, this is what I wanted. I was looking at the wear on my SG today. Quite a bit as I play about 9 days a week and I must say I like how it has worn down. It looks like I have owned this guitar for 30 years...obviously has to do with the "faded" finish and how it CAN be worn down quickly. Sweet

While I do not own this guitar, I've played it many a time as one of my friends owns it and I've compared it to other Gibsons and Epiphones. In terms of quality, I always recommend Gibson over Epiphone...Gibson simply makes a much better guitar in terms of the materials used, how it's built etc. This one's no exception; a well built guitar. The pickups aren't as good as the ones in the Standard or '61 Reissue, but they can always be replaced and even then you'll spend less than the $2000+ price for most other SG models. The guitar feels solid in the hand and is great fun to play. I personally prefer the look of the faded finish over the normal finish on the Standard model when both are cherry color. All in all, it's a great guitar especially for the fact that it costs less than other SG models. It's a Gibson besides...when has Gibson ever made a terrible guitar?
