In the early days of Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page relied heavily on a three-pickup 1960 Les Paul custom "Black Beauty" with a Bigsby tailpiece. Unfortunately, the guitar was stolen in 1970 at an airport and never recovered. Page has always felt that that particular electric guitar was "the one that got away."

Gibson proudly returns Page's cherished lost guitar in the form of the Gibson Custom Shop Jimmy Page Les Paul Custom a painstaking recreating of the iconic instrument with the addition of some of the most innovative electronics to ever grace a Les Paul Custom.

The result is this stunning "Black Beauty" with a slim-profile neck, Page BurstBucker pickups, gold Bigsby vibrato and an innovative six-position toggle that lets you isolate the neck and bridge pickups or add the middle in any combination.

In the normal position, the toggle operates like a standard 2 pickup Les Paul toggle: selecting Neck pickup, Neck and Bridge pickup, or Bridge pickup. Push it to the unique forward position, and now you can choose between Neck & Middle, Neck & Middle & Bridge, or Bridge & Middle. A push-pull treble tone knob splits the rear pickup for the traditional Jimmy Page single coil option.

Handcrafted for comfort and playability, this guitar is period accurate, and has received the VOS (Vintage Original Spec) treatment by the Gibson Custom Shop. A special nitro-cellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently-aged vintage electric guitar. The Bigsby tailpiece and the rest of the gold hardware feature a worn look to match.

I GOT JIMMY, FINALLY!!!!

Folks, I got it and not just the VOS, I was lucky enough to get one of the Signed and Played Replicas if you can call them such, but who cares man, they are signed and played by the dark lord himself. Ok, so let’s go over a few points regarding this piece: (i) Jimmy's original used to have the bridge and neck pickup uncovered, the new one doesn't, I'm just saying if you're using words painstaking, then Gibson, you gotta deliver; (ii) the tone and volume controls have the 1960 reflector-like look, the new one doesn't, it's kind of when you compare the ones in a LP Std 1960 vis a vis a 1959; (iii) the photos appear to have kluson tuners, Jimmy's had grover, however, strangely enough, despite the pictures, my guitar came with the grovers... clear as mud? (iv) Jimmy's original had a garden variety toggle switch, the new has an incredible six position switch, so, so much for a Replica, let's call it a reloaded replica which let’s face it, it has the benefits of 40 plus years of experience gathered by both the artist and the company. I can't tell you about the sound of this guitar for obvious reasons, yeah, you know, however, it has all the appointments of a JP LP such as elliptical profile neck, page burstbuckers and push pull pot to take the bridge pickups out of phase. I do however own and have played a JP LP (as his number 1 LP) and let me tell you it is still the greatest sounding guitar I've ever came across. Added to that, this one has incredible finish and appointments, everything on it is prime quality, like you're looking at a museum piece, so stop wasting time reading this a get yourself one PRONTO!!!!
