Cherry, Back Cherry, Close Angle

Lee's 1959 ES-335 sported a faster '60s block inlay neck and an added pickup in the center position. When he cranked out the scorching solo to "Going Home" at Woodstock, his iconic axe became preserved for all time on celluloid. Here it is in the flesh, reproduced with utmost precision right down to the cool stickers and faded cherry finish.

Solidsnake is right, of course this guitar is a replica. But it is definitely a replica of Alvin Lee's 335 played in Woodstock. The Woodstock 335 neck was broken in 1974 (or was it 75 ?) and Alvin Lee had the guitar shipped to Gibson USA for repairs. They changed the dotted neck for a block-inlay one, and revarnished the whole neck and body *over* the stickers that were on the guitar at that time. So stickers and neck are different indeed. The single coil pickup has been changed many times by Alvin Lee too, as the whammy, so this guitar setup is different than it was in 1969, but Gibson did reproduce very accurately THE woodstock guitar as it was when they worked on it in 1999. And this guitar is really fantastic, at least the masterbuilt CS Built I own, one of the first run of 50. The Memphis industrial series they made after this first run are great too, though not as perfect, and are still worth every cent they cost.

Replica, yes. Woodstock, no.

I'm sure this is a fine guitar but I just wanted to point out that it is clearly not a replica of Alvin's Woodstock guitar. As can be seen in the video, that guitar had different tuning pegs, dot inlays, a Bigsby tail piece, less artwork and stickers, and did not have the extra control knob below the lower f hole. I have seen this particular guitar in a photo attributed to a 1975 performance and also in video interviews with Alvin so it is definitely a replica of a guitar he owns, just not the Woodstock guitar.
