Antique Gold, Back Antique Gold, Close Angle

The Gibson Custom Shop 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar will revise your idea of how an electric guitar should feel and sound. Ted McCarty's Tune-O-Matic bridge with the designateion ABR-1 was added to the Les Paul in 1956. That, together with individual saddles and thumbwheels to adjust the bridge height, represented a quantum leap forward in intonation, tone, and sustain. This beautifully crafted reissue is a letter-perfect re-creation of that landmark model.

Gibson's Custom Shop produces some of the finest electric guitars on earth. Using the best materials money can buy, a staff of skilled luthiers reproduce some of the greatest Gibsons of the past and create stunning new instruments for players and collectors who demand the best.

Well Worth It

I have been playing this guitar for a few months now and I am still loving every second with it. I got it because my main Telecaster was a bit too bright. If you like Teles but need a little darker fuller sound but the snarl and bite that you love then this guitar is for you. I plug it straight into a Tungsten Cortez and just by adjusting the pickup volumes I can get an amazing range of tones. Also remember that though it is expensive you are getting a custom shop instrument and if cared for properly it will last forever. I love this guitar so much that I am currently saving up for a second one or possibly the 54 Goldtop.

Sweet Guitar

I recently played this baby. As soon as i picked it up i fell in love with it. It imediatly reminded me of the classic CCR songs such as Green River and Suzie Q. That may be because this is what John Fogerty plays on these songs. This guitar is awesome for that style. It's also a good country/rock guitar. I play in a regularly gigging band and we play mostlu country/rock and i am really thinking about buying one of these.

Great Guitar, But...

... not great enough to warrant the price. This guitar is an icon, one I always wanted and finally purchased in 2006. The workmanship is fantastic, the feel and tone of the guitar are great. But... this is not a gig guitar. I purchased a '56 Epi Goldtop and upgraded the electronics so I could have one that I'd feel comfortable gigging with. If you are a collector, this is for you. I am not, I am a musician, and I just sold mine on eBay. Too expensive to gig with and risk damaging.

Great Throwback Guitar!!

I purchased this guitar for investment purposes but once I played it I really Loved it!! It looks like a true vintage Gibson and sounds really nice with the P-90 pickups. The model I bought was the VOS version so it has been aged in the Custom Shop and has a thin nitro finish. I highly recommend this guitar if you're looking for a great playing or investment guitar. I could not find even the smallest flaw on this guitar. This brings my total of guitars to 29!!!! Yeow!!! My wife's gonna kill me!!!

Greatest guitar I have ever played
Posted by AlkalineBoxcar from D.C. on May 27, 2006
Experience w/product: I have heard about it
Reviewer's Background: In a Band
Reviewer's Play Style: Punk, Metal, Alternative
This guitar is the greatest guitar I have ever played. It has unbeatable tone. I play punk and metal, and this guitar sounds incredible distorted. It also has a beautiful clean tone. The rounded neck takes a little getting used to, but I find it easy to shread on. Although it may be a little pricey, it's worth every penny. So I definatly recommend this guitar for anyone, no matter what your playing style is.
