If you're looking for the ultimate all around eletric guitar, the 1954 Custom Shop Gold Top Les Paul is for you. This model is fitted with the smokin P90 pick-ups with a wraparound one piece bridge that's integrel to incredible tone and sustain unheard of in a stock guitar! One can play nearly every style with it. Hard rock, blues, jazz or country. Great with effects pedals or straight into the amplifier. Perferably a tube amplifier. A little pricey, but it'll last a lifetime and retain it's value. If you're stuck between choosing a Les Paul or a Stratocaster go with the 1954 Custom Shop Les Paul as it is like having both guitars in one.

The Best Les Paul

I have 25 guitars and am more of a Fender than Gibson Person, but this P90 Les Paul is my all time favorite. I actually consider it cheating because the tone is so good and it is so easy to play. It makes it hard to go back to the Fenders. It has all those Fender qualities of clean and bell- like tone but when cranked this thing rips. It cries, moans, yells, grunts and whispers sweet nothings I absolutely love this guitar.

If you're a tone guru who loves a P-90 equipped guitar, and have the cash to spend, by all means indulge yourself in one of these gems. A friend of mine bought one after playing my Hamer Special, because he wanted A Les Paul with '90's. Of course it kills my Hamer, I am not ashamed to report. The craftmenship is superb and the wrap around bridge really adds to the resonance of this Gold-top. If you love blues, this will be right up your alley. I played it through A JTM30, and it quacked and barked with the volume pushed, and it was as clear as a bell, each note sustinct and shimmering. With the volume down, it could stand on it's own as a country and jazz guitar. Very versitile indeed! I gave it a 4 for value, because of the pricing.
