I just bought this guitar today, and I must say it is awesome! The playability can't be beat, and the looks are killer! Gibson outdid themselves on quality too! I went in looking to buy a Martin and came out with this one.

I have played Bluegrass music for 40 years, mostly using Martin guitars. I bought the Adv. Jumbo in 03. Sitting between a barking mandolin and a 5 string RB250 banjo The Gibson Adv Jumbo will hold its own with the best of them. Perfect Bluegrass guitar.

I bought this guitar in 2005. I loved the way it looked and I wanted a Gibson all of my life. I looked high and low looking at all the different kinds of Gibsons out there. I never actually played one before I bought it. I ordered it and it came in and my father picked it up from the music store and all the guys who worked there were coming up to him and saying 'You are a lucky man.' This guitar had players drooling. People who try this guitar think it is the best they have ever played. It truly is a masterpiece. It looks fantastic, plays fantastic, and sounds fantastic. It is loud too! I have only played one other guitar better than this one and it was an old Martin that I played in Stockholm. But for a new instrument, this can't be beat. It is a little on the large side though as the neck is longer and it took some getting used to before I was comfortable with it like my other acoustics. Once you are used to that, it's a dream. I'm so happy with this guitar and when I look at it I am so happy! Thank you Gibson for making me a great one!

The Dark Princess

I spent a few days at a local music store trying to pick out the acoustic model to meet all my needs. I thought I found it in the Martin M-36. At least I would have if I had stopped looking when I bought it.

The truth is, I had a VERY hard time choosing between a Martin and a Gibson, which is all I was interested in. I play everything from Clapton blues to metal. I thought the M-36, with its beautiful golden vintage finish, trimmed neck, and awesome action, would satiate me. Then a coule weeks later I made the mistake of stopping in a music store in Minneapolis to waste some time.

I saw a model I had not seen at Dave's or on Gibson's website: The Advanced Jumbo. By the time I left that day, I knew I HAD to have one.

The AJ first caught my eye because of the sunburst finish, the highly-desirous tiger-striped pick guard, the vintage open tuners, and the awesome pearl inlays, all which my M-36 lacked. "Character" oozes from this guitar. However, like the M-36, it was the wonderful tone and superb action that finally won me over.

The appearnce is stunning. It was like opening up the case and finding Excalibur. (By the way, the smell of a new guitar is better than any new car smell. I wish it came in a spray)

I tuned her up and let it rip in my large wood-floored den. The set up was ideal. The voice is loud when you dig in, but yet controlled and not boomy or too jangly. After the stretch, it kept its tune perfectly. I could not put it down. in fact, I almost took the rest of the day off. I KNEW I made the right choice.

I think I played nearly every guitar in Gibson and Martin's lines. The J-45 true vintage was hard to turn away. So was the Martin Clapton and the John Mayer. However, this and the M-36 are louder, more versatile, and simply better playing instruments, for my buck. Armed with my M-36 and this dark princess, I feel like I can take on the world. I don't need another guitar. (So long as I stay away from the guitar stores, because that ultra-cool banner on the head of the True Vintage J-45 still has me thinking.)
