Best Guitar at ANY Price

I purchased my Gibson Songwriter from Musicians Friend in 2004, only after months of checking reviews on this one and many other models. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to tune it up and see what it would do. I was more than pleased. Tuned perfectly, right out of the box! Great projection! I had a professional set-up done after about 6 months, the action just a tad high for my preferences, and since then, it has done nothing but continue to improve in sound and playability. It tunes and plays perfectly all the way up the fretboard! The pickup is extremely powerful! My master volume on my amp is barely on "1" and it booms!! Over the years, she's become more mellow; just what I like in an acoustic! Every string speaks clearly, no overbearing bass notes, nor shrill trebles, just a perfectly equal combination, especially noted when you play bar chords. I can't rave enough about the Songwriter. I've played my friend's D45 Martin, and though in price there's a world of difference, in sound, the Martin sounds too tinny, to brassy, next to this Songwriter. This guitar gives you those tones that are versatile enough to fit into any kind of music, be it country, bluegrass, gospel, pop, blues, whatever. If you want the best that Gibson has to offer, at a great price, GET THIS ONE!! You won't be sorry!!

SWEET Beauty

I'm not particularly a Gibson fan. Just way too inconsistent. Some of the very best guitars I've played have been Gibson's, and some really crappy and WAY overpriced ones I've played have been Gibson's of the very same models. All that said, every Songwriter I've played has been just gorgeously sweet and seductive. I know it's not one of their "flagship" axes, or one that makes people reminisce of old time Gibson lore or flash nostalgic images of Americana tradition. But, the beauty of the sound is undeniable. It has that slightly airy, warm, super sweet and round bell-like tone that I associate with the very best Gibson's, and it has it a-plenty. And all that nearly perfectly balanced from E to E. I get shivers just thinking about it, ha ha ha. A really nice axe at a pretty good price (relatively speaking). I like it a whole lot better than some of their "higher" models, that seem more built on reputation and prestige than on actual sound or quality. My only complaints are that it's a little "bling-y" for my personal taste, and I don't like that goofy moustache shape bridge. However, I can put up with that for the great sound. This one is in my future sometime soon down the road. Or perhaps the Songwriter Deluxe Custom. Hmm. We'll see.

The most amazing instrument I have ever played

The TONE. There is so much glorious tone in that beautiful box that I just want to play every free chance I have. Like everyone else I tried the other brands as well but the Songwriter just hands down was the clear winner to my ear. The really sweet bonus is the electronics. With them being all "hidden" it just adds to the coolness factor but what really blew me away was how transparent it was. I had never heard an acoustic pickup system that accurately created the sound of the guitar enough. We have all thrown a little chorus, reverb, and/or delay in there to "sweeten it up" before and I can tell you this guitar doesn't need it. For the first time in my life I could not tell the difference between the soundhole and the speaker and since my entire guitar playing life (25+years) has been plugged in this was HUGE to me. Congratulations to the fine folks in Montana, you have brought me back to the Gibson family.

THE guitar, regardless of price

I've been playing for 25 years, exclusively acoustic the last 18. I've always wanted a quality, American made instrument. I began looking 3 months ago, and played a ton of high end guitars. I went into the store and found this one. I had already played 5 Taylors ranging up to $4000 in price, and 6 Martins and 3 other Gibsons that were on sale. The moment I played this guitar I knew it was mine. Rich volume, and not just on the low strings. The sound boomed out almost, with strumming, flat picking or finger picking. Wonderful warm tones. This might sound strange, but for me it was an emotional experience. I played it for half an hour, walked around, tried to shake it off, played a few more, went back, played this one again for another half hour. I had to buy it. Now, having said that, I can't stress enough that for each serious player there is a guitar for you, and this guitar might not be "the one" for everybody, but it is for me. High quality, wonderfully made.

This is simply an amazing guitar. If you're like me, you'll appreciate the fact that there are no visible electronics! It looks like you have a regular ol' Gibson - but the volume is right inside the soundhole! It's a sleeper, if you will. Everything is amazing about this guitar: Sound, feel, looks... I'm not a Gibson acoustic fan, but this is just great. One downside: no EQs. You give those away for the non-electric look. Sounds good through a PA, though - and Baggs makes an external EQ, but it's something that's definitely missing.
