Very pleased with the item. Short scale easier on the old knuckles without sacrificing tone. Pleasant sound, volume quite good, warmth and bass very good. Tuning machines not great. Fit and finish very good. Nothing wasted on gingerbread. Simply good. Hundreds less than comparable USA offerings from Martin, Taylor, etc.

The best of both worlds

Taylors have beautiful crisp high and mid range but lack punch at the bottom. Martins have plenty of boom but are somewhat muddy and almost muffled in the mid to highs. The J-50 I just got today has the best of both of these guitars.

This thing sounds better than ANY guitar I've EVER played.

PS: All guitars are different. The one I purchased had twice the volume and tone of a Flying Dove in a side by side comparison.

Play it before you buy it.

Peace

When I found out that Gibson rereleased the J 50 I was so happy. I had played several vintage ones and was amazed at its sound. The round shoulders coupled with the honduran mahogany and the sitka spruce top make it an excellent fingerpicking and strumming guitar. It has more lows than a standard dreadnaught while maintaining that classic Gibson sound. I was a little disappointed in the price of the J 50 and the J 45. I don't know why it continues to climb so high but one thing's for sure--there's not a guitar on earth that sounds the way a Gibson does.
