Gibson factory a disappointment

I returned my first 185 when the fingerboard began delaminating, and separating form the body. The one returned also had to be returned, costing a bit in postage and insurance. The guitar was returned without any contact from Gibson, with an unsigned letter stating it wasn't their problem. While a reputable repairman stated the problem was an offset neck, Gibson refused to fix the guitar, saying it was a humidity problem. I'll never again get a Gibson.

This is A Great Guitar

I bought this guitar without playing one of this model. I tried the maple version and I found the sound to be too bright and hard. I ordered the rosewood version, expecting a mellower tone, and I was not disappointed. This guitar sounds fantastic. A little softer than the maple version, but still bright enough to ring out. The tone has a very complex upper mid range, with a round, full bottom.

The setup was a little high to start, but I lowered the saddle a bit, and it's great now. The strings that came on this guitar were brutally bright to my ears. I put on some Martin 80/20 and it sounds very good to me now.

I know that Gibson has some variability in their quality. I've seen some with bad neck angle, visible machine marks in various places. My guitar is flawless as far as I can tell. Individual guitars may have some issues, so check carefully before commiting.

Pictures online do not do this guitar justice. The inlays in the ebony fretboard are a work of art. Bindings are perfectly installed, frets are smoothe. I couldn't ask for a better made guitar.

In this price range, there are quite a few good choices from Martin, Taylor and Gibson. I wanted the short scale and cutaway, and that is what pushed me toward Gibson. I would definitely recommend this guitar.

Far Better than Songwriter Dlx-Worth the $

This guitar is absolutely flawless. The guitar souns perfect straight out of the box, but the solid Spruce top and solid Indian Rosewood back and sides ensure this guitar will only get better with time. I did have to lower the saddle and adjust the action, and add a set of ultra lights, but I prefer lower, smoother action than most. This guitar plays like a dream! It is well worth the cost!
