GenzBenz Shen 150 Lt

Experience w/product: I own it
Reviewer's Background: Hobbyist
Reviewer's Play Style: Rock from the 1950's to Mid 80's.
I purchased the Shen 150Lt in June of 2007 from a music store in Arizona. Initially I was going to buy the Shen 60 which was displayed right next to the Shen 150Lt in the stores sound room. I used one of the stores higher end ovations with a wooden top and I liked the sound of the Shen 150Lt more. The She 150Lt sound had more base and was more alive even though acoustically both amps produced good acoustic sound. My father and big sister, non- musicians, went to the store with me and they noticed the difference immediately. So I shelled out the extra money. At home my primary guitar is an Ovation C 2079. It has both a 1/4 and XLR input. The phantom power on the Shen 150Lt via the XLR connector will not power up the guitars pre-amp so I am stuck buying 9 volt batteries. An ovation representative commented that in order for the guitars pre-amp to work with the amps phantom power a ground to shell connection would have to be made on my guitar. I have not done this as it would have to be done by a guitar technician since I do not know how to perform this procedure. I use the 1/4 input on both guitar and amp. The amp has two identical channels and each channel consists of a set of 1/4 and XLR inputs and a good acoustic band sound can be obtained. My set up includes a Boss Dr3 drum machine, Digitech Jam Man, Morely AB&Y Pedal and a Sure Beta 58A microphone. The sound is very good, clean and would even say professional even though the Morely AB&Y pedal adds some slight minimal hum to the sound. I have played with a another person using 2 guitars and 2 mics going into the amp and that sounded good as well. The phase switches do work and improve the sound under circumstances when multiple instruments/electronic devices are connected to the amp. Feed back has not been an issue but I normally do not turn the master volume above 6or 7. I cannot comment on how loud the amp is since I use it mainly at home and outside under the patio. The different on-board effects are useful with voice and instruments. What I like to do most is play, sing and loop for my own pleasure and sometimes for family and friends. I play mainly rhythym using my fingers without a pick, adding accent notes mainly around frets 1 through 9. I also do fingerstyle. Playing the guitar is a hobbie of mine for over 25 years now and at age 40 I still play nearly everyday. The Shen 150Lt amp is excatly what I was looking for and serves my purpose well. The only negative would be that different effects cannot be assigned to the different channels simultaneously. Thus far I have been very satisfied with my purchase.

Unbelievable!!!!!

I just got this amp and I could not be happier!!! I played it today in a 250 seat auditorium where I often play and it filled the room with great sound. I plugged my Taylor 314 and my Larrivee in and both sounded incredible! I also plugged in an SM58 for vocals and all was loud, crisp and clear. Warm bottom end, great transparency.

This amp is also very light weight!!!

The only thing missing would be the option to have phantom power.
