The demonic EL 34-powered Genz-Benz El Diablo 100 Tube Guitar Head is the ideal match for Genz-Benz enclosures. The Challenge.....

Alright....I decided after hearing this in the music store I work in for sevearl months...that I had to get one. First...this amp has an enormous ability to generate a huge array of tones...so be patient when you are trying to find yours.

The first thing I did when I got it home was disassemble the amp and start switching preamp tubes to find the voicing I wanted. THIS IS CRITICAL in ANY amp. I am amazed by how many people do not realize how drastic the difference is in the tones of different tubes from different manufacturers. Anyway...I ended up with a final combination of....JJ in v1, hg+RUBY in v2, and hg+JJ in v3. I get a warm fenderish tone in the clean channel, and on the high gain I get a brutally vicious wall of ultra heavy saturation. ON A SIDE NOTE: I use an Ibanez Thermion for my rhythm distortion.

The speakers I am using are 2-Celestion V30's and 2-Tone Tubby's w/ceramic magnets. The speakers you use make an ENORMOUS difference in tone. Play with your speaker arrangement to tailor your sound even further.

Anyone who has said that the amp cannot get some certain tone, has not really tweaked the amp. The tone is in there. Finding it is a boat load of crapola though. It took me a FULL 2 days to finally nail my sound down. I tried the settings in the back of the manual and I personally thought they were all crap. So...my point is, turn the freakin knobs...set them in ways that you wouldn't think will get good tones, you will be surprised at what you end up finding hidden in there. ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: During my tweaking session I was able to do an excellent peavey 5150 saturation, a nice fat Mesa Recto crunch, a sparkling fender clean, a vintage marshall clean, and a vintage Santana tone, just to name a few. None of which I was looking for, but just in case you were interested in some of the tones I has been proven to be capable of doing.

Also, since I have had the amp apart, I may as well pass on that it is a high quality build. Very study, very cleanly laid out inside, and I didn't notice any cheap components.

Now all I need is a switchbone and I am ready for the next show.

The Genz-Benz el Diablo 100 is simply the most amazing amp I have played through. It covers a lot of ground but shines the best as a high gain amp; very Mesa Recto sounding. The cleans are incredible as well; from very warm to pumped. With three FXs loops (one for clean, one for dirty and one global), there is a tremendous amount of versatility in the amp. I bought this amp on a Thursday and had it tracking in the studio by the following Monday. I was able to dial in everything I needed within a couple of hours of owning the amp. No amp does it all but this amp comes pretty close. If you're looking for a high gain amp with exceptional cleans, check this one out. I play through Vintage 30's and totally love the tone.

I'm very young musician, I used this amp for the first time when I first got into the band I'm currently in, It was the drummers dad's amp. I played it for the first time and was amazed. The clarity was like the best I've ever heard. The high gain channel was great. I loved everything about it. So I bought one. I don't even play with new amps anymore, I am 100% satisfied with the Genz Benz, I play it on the Genz Benz G-Flex 412 Cabinet, sounds great. Definitely a great buy, price not too band either compared to some tube amps.

I've owned this amp for almost a year, where do I begin. The tone is awesome! I'm currently using a cab with vintage 30's in it, bring the lows up. EQ with compensate for that. I'm one of three guitarist in my band and running at the 50 watt setting with my distortion volume around 9:00 and the master 9:00, I'm about even with the 2 other guitarist, the bass and drums without drowning them out. I wish it had midi in/out/thru, but there is a way to set-up an outboard effects unit by using a cable wired a certain way (call the company for the info). All in all, a killer amp that will not set you back too much $$$

OK, I recently bought this amp. And it really is amazing. I've played through a lot of amps. And this is certainly my favorite. It's just amazing. You have to try one out. Or buy one. You won't regret it. The Genz-Benz el diablo really is something.
