Great pedal board!

First of all know that if you use a multi-effects pedal the 9v power supplies can cut off. I have a Zoom G2 that I hooked up to the board and the power kept cutting off! After investigating, the G2 power is rated at 300ma, the power supply for the SPB-8 is only rated for 100ma. No big deal, I just used the wall wart for the G2 and everything is groovy! Handy plug right there!

Really there is too much on this board, but I needed the space. I don't use the patch section, no need. All that does is add extra patch cords to the set up. Nice long power cord which is nice, no need for extention cords in most cases. If you have more than a 12 foot reach to power you will need one.

Ohter than that it's a great board for the money. Quiet power and solid build. Not too big. Realistically, if you have more than 6 pedals, with cords and all this board will be cramped. I have a Wah pedal, the G2, a Fulltone Fulldrive, and an amp switch pedal on mine with only room for maybe two other small pedals.

Board is sturdy but, product could be improved with simple protective rails over the 9v power jacks and the cable jacks. Also, ports or slots could be milled through the board to run power cables and effects chain cables to prevent the rats nest of cables running between pedals. Otherwise it does what its supposed to do without any affect on tone.

I ordered this board from MF about 5 years ago to replace my SKB-6 (the original mass produced pedalboard). Initially, I loved it...more space, more power options, much sturdier, etc...

Then, occasionally at gigs, I'd get this god awful hum that simply wouldn't go away, until I plugged my amp into one of the 120AC outlets on the pedalboard. I thought, at the time, "bad wiring at venue, oh well..."

After a couple gigs that went this way, I blew my power tubes on the amp...figured, "oh well, factory stock tubes..."

Then, after only about a year, it happened again. I thought to myself, "that's weird."

So, I started looking into it. Everything had the sneaky look of improper grounding, thought to myself, "in a Furman?!"

Long story short, opened up the insulation in the cord and realized that the ground plug was there only for show. So, I replaced that plug, and grounded it properly.

Intermittently, I get a buzz, and my loopstation starts acting squirrelly, so every six months or so, I check the connection on the ground prong of the plug. That takes care of it...

Likker effects board

I've been a gigging musician for over 20 years. I've never really had a good pedal board because I didn't really use that many pedals. But that has changed a bit and I spent countless hours looking at stuff online trying to decide what to buy. I bought this Furman SPB-8 because it seemed to be the biggest bang for the buck. I really like it! And to get a good board of any brand plus a power distribution box will cost you more. I'm a big guy. When I step on something it had better be pretty solid - this one is. I don't use the patch bay. Don't even care if it works. 2 extra connections in a chain aren't necessary and a bad idea for preserving the signal. But all 7 of my pedals are powered (clean) by the board and the velcro grabs them really tight. Be careful about how many times you pull them off the board because they stick so tight they will pull the material away from the board if you're not careful. It will re-stick though. The bag is a little light weight for such a big board, but so far it's doing the job well. I recommend it. It's a good tool at a good price.

Quality issues kill otherwise decent board

I thought the power conditioner features of the Furman board for the price would make this a great deal, but the 9v power supply was defective and wouldn't power my pedals. Unfortunately I didn't test the board before tearing apart my chain to move it over to the board so a lot of wasted effort. I didn't mind the boards weight, but I agree that the bag zipper seems lightweight for the task. I'm going to go with either and SKB or a Gator board instead.
