The GT-500 Effects Pedal from Fulltone is a discrete FET Hi-Gain Distortion and Overdrive Booster in one box. You could think of them as 2 separate pedals, or think of them as stages to be linked together for endless combinations. The Hi-Gain side has Volume, Distortion knobs, Bass, Mid, and Highs minipots. Its Booster Side has Volume, Overdrive knobs, Bass and Highs minipots.

Hard-clipped distortion—the way most guitar pedals achieve distortion—at one point in a circuit can be cool, but stage after stage of FET (GT-500) is very real, very amplike, and has ridiculous amounts of sustain even at low volume. It does the great chunky low-string rhythm stuff and cleans up incredibly well when you turn down the guitar's volume. The Fulltone GT500 contains 9 FETs, 2 Mosfets, and 1 Transistor with no opamps or clipping diodes used.

What's special about the EQ? The Hi-Gain side has a discrete Inductor-Driven Midrange circuit—never been done in a pedal before. There's a wah-wah inductor inside the pedal that gives the Midrange control its ability to drastically increase or decrease the entire Low Mid, Mid, and Hi-Mid frequencies, to comical proportions. All this is done without any opamps—this has 100% discrete matched FETs.

This Mid control mixed with a strong Bass and Treble control help give the Fulltone GT-500 the ability to dial in more variations than a simple tone control, which can only roll off the Highs.

The Series Select Switch allows you to choose which pedal comes first (allowing you to instantly change the order of the 2 circuits). For example: A clean boost slamming into the front end a Distortion sounds way different than a Distortion followed by the clean boost, and when the EQs of the respective sides come into play, it's a wide-open canvas. Regardless of which side of the effects pedal is designated as first in line, you can still use each side by itself, completely independent of the other side.

To me the Features are above normal in quality and the quality of the Fulltone hand made propaganda does bear some decent truths but the unit overall does not have enough juice with my system. You think it would with the uf500 coil for tone on one side and the overdrive built in on the other side but it just sounds too mushy to me. I was also concerned too because the GT-500's paper work stated that if you run it on 18Volts that it may cause an overload within some amps instrument inputs. This I didn't want to play with. I am running two 5150 III heads and I placed this GT-500(powered by 9volts) in the front of both amps with a Morley signal splitter with the amps on the first channel with the gain up about 3/4. Ummmm it's ok..I liked it but after trying the Vox Saturator under the same circumstances I was floored. The Vox JS Saturator worked much better for me. I think for the person who is focused on the single coil strat mode with a older lower gain amp might be better suited with this GT-500. The good thing is that Musician's Friend works with us for needs such as exchanging an item or simply returning an item within reason. I switched this one and I am pleased. Thanx Musician's Friend!!

This is an excellent pedal with a lot of tonal options...when I first got this I used it with 9v (it does 9v and 18v) and I wasnt sure about it, too sterile and weak..but man when I gave her 18v it was night and day...excellent tone controls (treble cut and bass on boost, bass, treble and mids on distortion) and a cool little switch to play distortion-boost or boost-distortion...but this pedal is a little pricey.

The Truth

You and your Line 6, Boss and Digitech wanna be distortions and overdrives can go suck on your thumb when this hits your face. The Overdrive harkens back to an old Fender Bassman. Amazing versatility, Try with any Strat or Tele and it is magic. The beauty of this pedal comes in the hi-gain distortion. This can dial in everything from main-stream metal, to classic rock of any era, to mid-boosted vintage distortion. You will not be disappointed in this. BEST PEDAL ON MY BOARD

not bad, not great

This pedal is a decent overdrive and distortion all in one...the overdrive is a bit compressed and harsh, could use some more gain, the distortion is the best part, almost worth the price alone...and together is the real deal, very good...and it has a toggle switch to change from overdrive/distortion to distortion/overdrive...little tone controls that really widen the tonal possibilities

but...its not as good as my jeckyl and hyde, just a bit more pricey...I have the jeckyll and hyde and the fulltone gt-500..will probably sell the gt-500 as it doesnt do anything the jeckyll and hyde does, and the things they both do the jeckyll and hyde does better.
