Clyde McCoy was a big-band Trumpet Player in the '60s... not a great musician, but one famous for getting a muted wah wah sound. This led to Vox trying to approximate this muted trumpet sound in a pedal... hence the Vox "Clyde McCoy" wah wah circa 1967.

Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton used a Vox "Clyde McCoy" model wah wah. Photos taken during the recording of Electric Ladyland document Jimi's as being the "signature" model, featuring Clyde McCoy's name written out script style on the bottomplate. The other type of Clyde McCoy was the "picture" version, which had Clyde's photo on the bottomplate. The "signature" model, with it's great sounding "halo" inductor, is what the Fulltone CLYDE is modeled after.

The Fulltone CLYDE was born from taking the best of the best of Fulltone's vintage Vox wah collection, and analyzing every aspect... going so far as sacrificing a few of the vintage inductors to get it right.

Our Inductor is a tuned core hand-made unit using exactly the same type wire and inductance as the '60s-era Vox, except very consistent from one unit to the next. A tuned core inductor is much more expensive to make, but the end result is worth it. Drop this into your wah and experience the difference. The only change from the original '60s Vox design is the addition of a very usable internal Resonance Control which is a large durable trimmer, for bass and gain adjustment, which is easily adjustable by hand without tools and with room to mark your favorite settings.

All 2008CLYDE Standard wahs sport the most authentic '60s Vox-type inductor available, which happens to also be the quietest.

Last WAH pedal you'll ever need

Let me start by saying I NEVER bother to write reviews on anything. I'm a pro guitarist (as in Berklee College of Music), not a garage band hack. I've used a TON of WHA pedals over the course of my life, Crybaby's, Vox, no-name brands, don't even get me started on the junk that Morley makes. This WHA pedal is hands down the best you can get. The tone is so smooth and transparent. It's also a True Bypass pedal. I'm not a huge believer in having to have all of your pedals be True Bypass. However, for pedals that produce noise and alter tone like WHA pedals do, it's a must. I compared this pedal side by side using the exact same setup and cords as a Dunlop Crybaby 535. Aside from the fact that the Clyde blows the Crybaby away in terms of the WHA tone, it also smoked it in terms of noise. The Crybaby produces noise and alters your tone, even when the pedal is off. If you don't believe me, then you've either got bad hearing, or simply have no idea what you should be listening for. If that's the case, even the best gear in the world isn't going to help you.

Bottom line, this pedal produces a superb WHA sound and unlike so many others out there, doesn't alter your tone AT ALL or add noise AT ALL whether the pedal is on or off.

Add it to your pedalboard and you'll never need another WHA again.

The throw back Vox

This is it. Just like it, the Vox wah. You know the ones hendrix used. Ah dont want to hear about the Crybaby. This is for a seasoned user anyway. Very sensitive and high quality. I have this and a crybaby, put them in line with each other. The range from low to high is not of this earth. Best feature is the adjustable output housed inside the unit. Set it and forget it. Then again, it's made by fulltone.
