The Fender Princeton Reverb Amp of the 1960s, though small, light and moderately powerful, produced giant tube tone. In the '70s and beyond, it earned a rep as the quintessential studio recording amp, and original Princeton Reverb amps are highly sought after in today's vintage market as collectibles and as a wise choice for creating great tube tone in a small space.

Fender's new Princeton Recording Amp offers all of the great tone and dynamics of the original, plus several modern studio-friendly features. Its all-tube preamp, power amp and reverb circuitry is based on the classic '65 Princeton Reverb, and, with 20 watts and a 10" Jensen speaker, it provides spanking vintage tone and enough output for small gigs and rehearsals. The trans-impedance power attenuator lets you crank up the amp for full output tube overdrive and set the speaker volume as low as you want (even silent for headphone use)!

Other features include two classic onboard "stomp box" effects (overdrive and compression), genuine tube-driven Fender spring reverb by Accutronics, headphone output, speaker emulated line output with level control and ground lift, speaker output jack (internal speaker may be disconnected for use with other 8-ohm enclosures), professional FX loop, and four-button footswitch.

Fender Princeton Recording Amp Features:

  • 20W into 8 ohms
  • 10" Jensen speaker with ceramic magnet
  • Power attenuator
  • 3-knob overdrive
  • 2-knob compressor
  • Tube-driven Accutronics reverb
  • Speaker emulated headphone out
  • Speaker emulated XLR line out with level and ground lift
  • Speaker out
  • Professional FX loop
  • 4-button footswitch included

Sub-par Fender Quality & Design

I own this amp and have owned it for two years. First off the volume control has a scratchy pot. Secondly when you play the amp "full" as advertised using the Power Attenuator the amp starts cutting out after about 12 minutes or so. You can play it full on with no problems, but for the hefty price tag that this TIPA added, it should at least work correctly. I didn't discover this flaw until I read online reviews and tried it for myself. Yep - it is going back for repair, and if it keeps doing it, then I will enact the "lemon" clause in my extended warranty. Good luck... the success rate for fixing this problem doesn't appear too great.

I've been playing guitar for about 20 years and have owned many different kinds of tube amps. This amp is a great idea for club gigs, session work, practicing at home, rehearsals etc. Unfortunately it is way overpriced. The built in compressor and tube screamer based overdrive are ok at best. The amp seems to be excessively noisy in general but especially when the compressor is engaged and you are using single coils. The speaker simulated line out seems to work very well. In fact, it's probably the best feature on the amp other than the trans impedance power attenuator. The biggest problem I have is that I recently purchased the Super Champ XD and it blows this amp out of the water in every category. That is slightly frustrating to me since it costs about one third the price. Do yourself a huge favor and read the reviews for the Super Champ XD and try one out for yourself. You can't go wrong for the price.

I've had this amp for about three months. It can do everything I want or need. Low noise for recording and a great big sound for live playing. The over drive sounds fantastic, no need for foot pedals.

Great tone and value

This is a great recording and gigging amp. I've been recording for thirty years and I've never found an amp that can record so hassle-free as this. Tweak a couple knobs and you can dial in almost any tone imaginable. The deal with the attenuator is this: if playing with the attenuator on a low setting for over an hour while using a lot of gain and overdrive, the protection mechanism on the amp will kick in and bring the amp volume down. The way around this design feature is to allow the attenuator to be brought almost full gain when playing live, and use the volume knob, overdrive knob, and your guitar knob to control output and breakup. its just like you would on a normal amp. However, if recording, bring the attenuator to a low setting to get all your sweet break up with out the extra noise of an amp turned up loud. Its really a tremendous feature. The distortion is great and the compressor is marvelous.

The amp sounds Good but when you use the power attenuator to control the volume the amp cuts in and out. I'm on my second one and I've had this one back to the shop for the same thing twice already. It must be a design flaw they can't seem to fix???
