I have the Olympic White purchased from my local guitar shop. I wasn't pleased with the pick up arrangement and sound after playing it awile. I guess I should have considered that when I purchased it, but I wanted a strat and this was available, and resonably priced. The quality of the body, neck, and tuners are very good, no complaints here. I replaced the pickups with vintage noiseless (includes new control pots)and rewired with Eric Clapton diagram from Fender. Replaced the pickguard with white pearl added D'Addario 9-42 strings and this guitar is awsome. What's nice is the ability to cutomize any guitar to your liking. Color, pick up style etc.

I rank this MIM as #2, just behind the Classic Player Baja Telecaster, against all other Fender Ensenada products. This is a nice guitar.
But what year is the one you got? MSN6 might mean 1996, or it might mean 2002. MSN7 might mean 2007 but it just as easily may not.
Pop the pickguard off and you should find a date stamp on the under side. This is all you get, unless you read the codes on the volume and tone pots. If the pots say 0814, your guitar was manufactured after the 14th week in 2008. If the pots say 9918, your guitar was manufactured after the 18th week in 1999.
2006 issue Jimmies usually have a tiny "60th" button on the back of the headstock. If you have this button, don't be telling people you have a "60th Anniversary Jimmie Vaughan" because that's not right; almost all Fender guitars from 2006 have that tiny button. The term "60th Anniv" is for limited edition models, only made in 2006.

The above title isn't quite true, but I have been quite pleased with my JV strat. The range of tones that you can coax from this thing is great - SRV/Hendrix is easier to approximate on this guitar than on any american strat i've played. Also, switching to the 'in between' pickup settings (i.e. positions two and four)with the knobs all the way down to zero gets the richest, smoothest, toastiest tone. The auditory equivalent of drinking Bailey's, i guess. The soft-v neck is just as awesome as everyone says it is, and i don't know why fender doesn't just stick them on every strat. The downsides, however, are a high amount of fret buzz. I got this checked out by a guitar repairman who was a total quack so i have yet to find out from whence this proceeds, but i don't know if it's a common problem. Anyway, its playability and tonal quality make this git-fiddle an incredible buy.

It's made in mexico as a mass produced piece with little quality assurance and the product shows. The neck plays great and that's about where the good ends on this guitar. I got this guitar two years ago and after inspecting it closer after doing some mods on it I'm very disappointed with the quality of it. The finish is cracked at every hole where a screw went in (they obviously torqued it out) and the quality of the wiring and electronics is laughable. I like the look and feel of the guitar but I was not happy with the pickups and the electronics... and the hardware. So I've replaced the bridge pickup with a Lollar Special S changed the volume pot to a 500K and added a mini toggle switch which adds the neck pickup to positions 1-3. I'm a lot happier with the guitar after the mods but I'm going to replace the rest of the pickups with Lollar Blackface's, replace all of the rest of the electronics (including adding a treble bypass circuit) and changing all of the hardware to callaham parts. I've also already changed the pickguard to an anodized gold pickguard. This is a good guitar to mod.

I work at a local music store in my area and I see a lot of guitars come through, some good and some not. I purchased my Jimmie Vaughan about two years ago because I was so impressed with the way the guitar sounded and played. When it came through I had to grab it, it's a very early one with a '96 serial # and it was in perfect condition. The soft-V neck profile is great and it really makes the guitar a joy to play, the V isn't very pronounced and you only notice it up by the headstock, but when you feel it you like it and the rest of the neck has a great feel as well, the satin finish makes it feel pretty fast, even with the maple. The stock pick ups are great as well, the best words I can use to describe them is super clean and dry and a little punchy, they're pretty hot pick ups, especially the bridge, they actually have a little more volume than the active EMG-sv's in my other guitar. And the maple also gives that punchy sound some people are looking for. I say the pick ups sound dry, but that's not a bad thing, hearing them through an amp like a super reverb, or any of those nice clean fender amps will really make you dig the tone and feel they have. And it sounds great over-driven too. It's really a "plain jane" guitar, it's not that fancy, the one-ply pick guard gives very plain looks and there isn't any thing that appears particularly special about it. But, I'll be honest, I've been less satisfied and impressed with some American Fenders. It's a great guitar that's not so bad on your wallet, and if you want something fancy it's easy and fairly cheep to dress up if you don't dig the plain look. I put about 200 bucks in some gold parts and a nice pick guard on mine and the thing looks like i paid $1500 or more for it. The only thing bad i can say about it is that mine is a little heavy, nothing like a Les Paul, but to my experience it's about the same as any other Mexican Strat or Tele. But other than the weight, you'll never know it's a Mexican, the quality is incredible. I will mention though, mine is a very early model, but if they make 'em anything like they used to you'll be happy.
