This is an impressive guitar for the price. Fender always seems to satisfy, they do a good job, and you get no less than what you pay for.
Cons:
The Jaguar has a smaller neck, which takes some getting used to if your not familiar with the smaller scale. the saddles on the bridge dont hold on to the strings very well, but thats easily fixed with a simple mod-replace the bridge with the bridge from the jazzmaster. it fits right in, and does a much better job. Also, for some reason, the HH model does not have a tremolo, which is only a downside if your comparing this to the SS model, or if you actually play surf. also, the strings have been known to buzz, but that is also easily fixed.
All of those cons are very minor, and dont hold a candle to the pros:
Pros:
The Dragster humbucker pickups on this baby shine and sparkle like only few others. There is clarity and depth of note very rare for this price range. The neck pickup is warm, clean and round, while the bridge pickup is shiny and punchy. Together, there is a litte bit of quack and pop, but not much, and the combined tone is really something else. they are extremely high output, so there can be some feed back even with light distortion in certain situations, but this does wonderful things for tone, distorted or clean. when clean, this guitar does have a very unique sound, partially due to the alder body. the result of this is a very surf-like sound, in all setrings. personally, I like it, but check out the youtube demos of this guiar before picking it up if your in the market for a more standard les paul sound. the Lead boost/rythm switch next to the pickup selector switches also adds tonal punch and gives the player much more freedom and control over sound than most guitars. the upper controls (circut switch, volume and tone wheels) are a bit unnecesary, but act well as a kill switch if you turn the volume wheel all the way down and use the lower controls for all pickup switching. These controls are confusing at first, but once figured out, are much more luxurious than your standard 3 or 5 position switch, and 2 or 4 vol and tone knobs.
the smaller neck makes the strings a bit looser, so they bend easier, which can be nice. the pegs keep the guitar in tune very well. The matching painted head is also great for looks, as in general, this is a beautiful guitar. the finish is beautiful, and the metal plating is dashing. easy to keep clean as well. the alder body provides a great tonal core.
All in all, I love this guitar for what it is. It sounds great, it's versatile, it's well made, and although there are some draw backs, they are nothing that cant be fixed easily, and they certainly dont hold this thing down enough to nullify its otherwise greatness. For the price, definitely a steal!

I bought this about two years ago. About two weeks ago I put a Hip-shot on it. Jags and Hip-shots are not made for each other BUT it is possible with a little jury-rigging. Since I intend to keep the Jag I locked it down solid with all three screws. The bridge works like a champ with the Hip-shot and makes a whole new toy out of it. Can't put the thing down! I like the short scale neck and can't see a Byrdlander $$$$ and Mustangs...well, got one for sale.
I've been at this for more years than I'm going to admit to and I've played the original Jags. This is much better IMHO (even without the Hip-shot) and the short scale is a big help when arthritis gets active.

I have had an assortment of Strats, Teles (Fdr and G&L USA), Gibsons...all different sounds, tones, body weights, etc.. This is a nice smaller scale guitar with very veratile sounds. (and LOUD 1 meg pots in the rhythm circuit...it'll surprise you). Nice clean tones. (I don't play hi gain very often). It's lighter than my Tele and very comfortable to play. I love the top mounted jack for sit down playing. The fretboard is a vintage 7 1/4 radius (as round as it gets)and the frets are 'vintage' small. The nut is rather low, as well. I don't get ANY fretbuzz, which has plagued more than one high end guitar of mine! Nice plus. The neck profile is just slightly thicker than your average Strat with a darker amber gloss. The cheaper die cast Klusons actually hold their intonation rather well. I might get the Wilkinsons EZ Lok later, tho. Actually, I do prefer bigger frets and a flatter radius, so I'm planning on getting a re-placement neck from Warmoth. It'll make it really nice! ISSUE #1 I had was static interference. BAD! Even if I just touched the BACK of the BODY. How bizarre. I could actually 'play the back of the body' like a snare drum ..it was so bad. Sorta cute, but ...not really. But, nothing a bunch of copper shielding tape can't cure. I shielded the back of the metal plates, the pickguard with copper and used a cheaper, thinner conductive (air conditioning, duct) tape for the cavities. It doesn't hum or buzz anymore! Lovely. :) This is a time consuming and tedious process, but it's so worth it! Ok, because I'm an effeciency nut, I initially thought the bridge pickup didn't work! I thought the 2 lead circuit slider was for a "middle" position and the 3 slider was for the bridge. ha.. No. Also, I thought the 1st roller was an independent vol for the neck and the 2nd roller was similar for the bridge. lol So, ...I got enlightened. I'm used to it now, but later on I may actually get it wired up *that* way. Just my preference, pay it no mind. When I measured the actual scale from nut to bridge, it came in at 24 3/16,FYI. The Fender site (I think, don't quote me yet) listed it as a 24 3/4 scale, not 24". Which made it seem a whole 1/2 inch off. ?? But,it sounds good. On the replacement neck, I'll get 21 frets instead of 22 to give the playing field more 'room to breath'. Just a note for your consideration should you take a similar route. All in all it's a fun, different, 60's psychedelic love machine and I do reccomend it for nothing other than a 'change of pace' ..(and customizing!)

I've owned this guitar for about two years, and it has been nothing but incredible for me.
This guitar is super reliable & low maintainance. Never had a problem with the electronics going out. I have never taken this guitar in for repairs (just semi-frequent set-ups). I love the Jaguar's control system. Do a bit of reserach to see how they work; Once you get it it's not difficult at all and I now actually prefer having my controls set up this way. I often set the 'Rhythm' circuit to zero volume, so when I toggle it it acts as a kill switch. The rhythm channel can also produce smooth, bottom-end-accentuated cleans tones.
Don't let the fact that these are "medium output" humbuckers bother you. I play everything from ska, punk, & thrash metal, and with the right EQ settings these pickups can do it all (though if you're explicitly a high-gain metal player, perhaps another bridge pickup would be nice). The bridge pickup is very bright, crisp, and crunchy with gain; On clean the bridge p.up tone is bright and easily cuts through the mix. The neck pickup produces a brilliant, thickened clean tone with great bottom-end and a nice, even "twang".
The neck is smooth-playing and extremely comfortable. Tuners stay in tune pretty damn well. Some people complain about the weight of the guitar, but I've never been bothered by it and the contours make it very comfortable (much more so than a Les Paul). If you're skeptical, have no fear! This guitar is awesome!

I have a Fender Stratocaster Plus made in 1991 in USA, I love this guitar, but when I buy my Fender Jaguar HH Special made in 1994 in Japan, the Jag was the only guitar that I have it in my hands every day, I love this guitar.
