The Blues Jr. pushed through a 12" Jensen speaker.
The Blues Jr. NOS takes Fender's 15W gem and gives it the true vintage treatment with lacquered tweed covering and a vintage-style 12" Jensen speaker. Its power is generated by an all-tube signal path using a pair of EL84 Groove Tube output tubes and 3 - 12AX7 preamp tubes. Add renowned Fender reverb, flexible controls, and FAT circuit with footswitch for golden tones, and you're in business. And just look at that chrome panel, that lacquer tweed finish with pinstripe grille cloth, and those vintage pointer knobs . . .

I play small clubs, private parties, etc. and when miked this is the perfect amp for me. The tone is super and works well with my strat and tele. But if you want reverb, you'll have to set up in a stairwell. I usually set my reverb to 1 or 1.5, but on this amp "12" only gives you the slightest hint of reverb. Other than that this amp is well worth the money and I'm vey satisfied with everything else.

Being professional Blues player w/bad back, I use 2 Jr's w/active A-B box splitter. I find I get a very full bottom end with killer over-tones that all my guitar playing friends envy. Though the volume is still somewhat lacking it's real good for clubs and out-door shows if miked. Excellent for Srats and my Epi Casino w/p-90's sounds GREAT! With 40+yrs exp.,take my word. S.CURLE

The Fender Blues Junior NOS Tweed Limited Edition amp sounded pretty good when I got it. Wasn't quite right though. Put in 3 Sovtek 12AX7WAs and a Sovtek EL84 hard duet from Musician's Friend. Holy smokes! Gorgeous tone. I'm out in the boondocks, so no biasing or mods available...just plugged in the tubes and heard a fabulous singing tone. Very loud and clean. Tolerates Cool Cat Trem And Trans OD very well. Beautiful sounding amp. I hate the old timey, clunky looks. Set the Master and Reverb on 3, everything else on 100%, adjust fhe rest from your Telecaster...you know.

Hanging up "The Twin"

I've own "The Twin" since '88 and haven't used an amp that comes close to satisfying me. Have to have tubes. Now, unless I need the power, "The Twin" stays home. I play jazz a majority of the time and the clean tone is marvelous. I've always wished for a reverb that was more progressive (I don't use that much so I'd like finer control over it.) but it will do the job.
A 15 watt with 12' speaker is what it is. If you plan to blow out a large room then you're fooling yourself and haven't the right to complain. If it suits your needs buy it! If not, at least know your needs.

Great Little Amp For Country & Bluegrass Music

I've had this Tweed Blues Jr about a month and love it. I also have a 65 Fender Twin Reverb, SWR Blonde acoustic amp, SWR external powered monitor, Peavey Vypyr 15, and a Crate CA125 acoustic amp. Of course, the Twin Reverb is the best of these, but the Tweed BJ is a close second for smaller events. I run the output from the guitar to the BJ input jack thru a Line 6 PODxt, first, and get a great sound without that boxy sound often mentioned by others. (Boxy is the sound you get if you speak into your cupped hands.) I've also used a Boss GE-7 Equalizer instead of the PODxt with similar results. A friend has a black Tolex BJ, and he adjusts the BJ's tone, bass, and mid controls to get a better sound, and I don't hear the boxy sound. The Jensen speaker in my Tweed BJ does sound different than the Tolex BJ. With my BJ, I don't notice a loudness jump-up between 1 and 2 on the master volume or reverb controls that others complain about. I haven't checked to see if Fender changed to audio taper pots on this newer amp which would solve that problem. The BJ's 31 lbs is easier to lug around than the Twin's 65 lbs for this young man of 70. Maybe, when I get old, I'll need this lighter amp.
This BJ and my Tele sound great together. I've also used my Epi Elitist Byrdland, Peavey T-60, Gibson Les Paul, Martin HD-35, and Taylor 810 with the BJ and they sound great. With only one channel on the BJ, I run the PODxt and the Boss GE-7 outputs into a Y connector, and then, to the BJ input jack for simultaneous guitar and mic input. The guitar and mic input levels are different so I have to increase the mic level with the GE-7. I've got a 2 channel preamp coming this week that has two balanced mic input jacks and two 1/4" guitar input jacks that will simplify this limitation. I'll probably do some of the Billm modifications in the future which should improve the stock Tweed BJ sound, prolong output tube life, and maybe not need the PODxt.
I rate this a 4.5 because it does have limitations compared to my Twin Reverb.
