Transparent Wine Red 3-Color Sunburst Transparent Wine Red, Angle 3-Color Sunburst, Angle

The Highway One series! Super-size frets, '70s styling, alnico pickups in the neck and middle positions and great colors take this amazing guitar to the next level. The neck and middle position pickups on the Highway One Stratocaster HSS guitar produce a more round tone that can sound glassy and great with high gain. Master Greasebucket Tone Circuit rolls off highs without adding bass. The thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish lets the body wood's natural tone shine through, making for one of the most exciting instruments in the Fender family!

Mojo Machine

This is my second Strat. My first, an American Deluxe, just didn't have the grit I wanted for Psychedelic Rock. I still wanted a Strat as well as HSS configuration. Sitting right at the entry way of the domestic manufacturing line, the Highway One is an excellent value compared against the Lone Star, Road House and Deluxe Players Stratocasters from the import market.

This axe is super light with an ultra-thin satin nitro finish. The classic asymmetrical horns, narrow waist and "Original Contour Body" is as sexy as the days when Leo was making Strats in his shop. The neck is smooth and buffed to perfection. The Jumbo frets are a welcome feature not often found in Fenders and are great for heavy bends and trills. The neck is topped with two chrome roller string trees and the larger 70s format peghead.

The electronics are first rate featuring 2 Alnico III Hot Single-Coil pups, an Atomic Humbucking pup on the bridge and Grease-Bucket Tone technology which rolls off highs without making your sound muddy. I was looking for an axe with more attitude than my American Deluxe could muster and man does this deliver. When Fender says "Hot" pickups they weren't foolin'. These pups wail! They are not noiseless pickups which means all the mojo and cream of 60s & 70s psychedelic tone will be there. Dude--I'm stoked!

Good sound, disappointing quality

Fender Highway 1 HSS Stratocaster - Playing this guitar with .011-049 D'Addarios through a Fender Blues Junior or a Hot Rod Deluxe, both straight in and through a vintage Ibanez UE300 and/or a DynaComp compressor. The upside - The sound was clear, strong and had fair tone. All three pickups responded well to good technique, bearing in mind the humbucker leans toward a transparent Fender sound, not as thick as a Gibson 'bucker. I liked the shape of the neck and fingerboard. The downside - The frets on my guitar were as sharp as razors, both across the crowns and at the badly dressed ends. After a short time playing the sheer matte finish became irritating to my bare right forearm. I found the strings tended to hang in the nut under even the slightest use of the trem, though going to heavier strings may have contributed to that. I traded mine in on an Amer Deluxe.

I now own 6 (!!!??!!) of these guitars in various colors!! I love the finish, big headstocks, HSS configuration, and larger frets. I do, however have many issues with the pickups. In short....they kinda STINK! But all is not lost.....once I replaced the pickups on all 6 guitars, (all different pickup combinations) they became EXCELLENT guitars! They feel very comfortable and play effortlessly. They just need "improving"! All in all...a very versatile guitar that looks real cool onstage. Just replace the pickups!! I suggest Dimarzio Area 58's and 61's and any good Gibson Humbucker like the Burstbucker 3. THEN you will have a KILLER AXE!!!

I got mine on a scratch and dent markdown. It came to me almost completely perfect. A very slight scuff and a line similar to (but not) a scratch on the front. I thought part of the idea of the nitro finish is to show wear and tear, whatever my gain. I would have gotten the red, but the Black was marked down and it is totally beautiful. It has the nicest rosewood fingerboatd I have seen, very dark with nice red and yellow streaks. It came perfectly set-up and in tune. The voicing range is amazing. Put on a clear channel amp you can get wide range of sound from this guitar. The sound is really good, top quality pick-ups. I have no desire to change anything on this one. Top to bottom the quality is right on. Playability...classic Fender. I put D'Addario 10s on it, the tremolo springs couldn't hold it. I put a couple more on, works fine. This is the guitar that made Fender. I can imagine wanting a different sound, color, or fancier. I don't see where it could be any better. I ordered mine with a MF metal flight case, perfect fit. And yes it was shipped inside the case.

Highway One is #1

Bought this guitar April 2009 and haven't put it down. My Highway One is my #1 guitar. I haven't brought another guitar to a gig since. From in door gigs to the salt water air of the Jersey Shore. This axe does it all. Humbucker is great and you get the Fender twang from the Hum and Middle single coil. Only have two complaints 1.Bought this strat at GS and the set up was horrible. I had to bring it to my local shop for a good setup. 2.The neck pick up is now my new refrigerator magnet. Weak, no tone. I replaced it with a Dimarzio Super D. what a difference. I would recommend this guitar to any active musician. It is definitely a work horse.
