In regards to the Fender Frontman 65W... this amp is stupid. I relied on the Fender name when I bought it and I was severely disappointed. I was hoping for a practice size combo amp that still had enough power to jam with a band.

Let me start with the clean channel. Which is the only channel I care about. I use active pickups, powered by a 9V. Either EMGs or by a separate preamp that I install in my guitars. OMG, you get all of this amps volume by the time you get to #1 on the volume knob. It's just poorly manufactured. I own and have owned several other guitar amps. Anywhere from 5 to 200 Watts. There's no excuse for this. It's ear splittingly painful. And useless as a home practice amp. Not to mention if you want to use effects boxes on the clean channel. They will boost your signal.

Now, as for the distorted channel. I don't have any use for any amp's distortion since I have my own sound that I create externally. But I played with it. The distorted channel actually has more control over the volume than the clean channel, and much more control over the EQ. The "Mid Contour" button is a nice attempt for getting a midrange "metal scoop." But I would never buy an amp just for it's distortion. The distortion doesn't sound that great as it is. That's not a knock on this amp, that's just cheap amp distortion in general.

I don't know what to rate this thing, it's junk. Buyer beware.

I am still learning to play, but my new Fender Frontman 65R amp is everything I had hoped it would be. If you want an amp with crystal clear sound and a name you can trust this is the one, I highly recommend it.

Fender's Best Solid State Combo!!!

I am a hardcore Fender Strat fanatic, and after playing through Crate amps for the last few years,I decided that a change was in order. I suddenly felt the need to go back to Fender amps, and after seeing the reviews on the Frontman 65,I was dying to get my hands on one of them, and come X-Mas time, my wife went out and bought me one. When I plugged my 2006 Sunburst MIM Strat into this box, I was not dissapointed. This amp has that classic Fender clean tone which is world famous and within minutes, I was knocking off some Blues riffs which sounded so sweet. My only complaint is that the clean channel doesn't have a mid control on it, but lowering the treble and raising the bass will make up for that. The Gain channel on this , is powerful and clear, especially with the contour button which allows you to play anything from Blues to full out Metal. Most of all, after lugging around a 2 x 12" combo for the better part of a year and a half, the weight (32 lbs) on this amp, is a welcome relief. Oh, and one more thing, for a 65 watt amp, this little combo is very loud! I only have the volume set on 2 at band practice and I'm more than able to keep up with my drummer and Bassist. This is IMO, the best solid state combo that Fender has ever put out, and for the price you won't find anything better. Well done!

I received this amp from Musician's Friend a couple of days ago. It is loud and clean sounding. One thing I can't sort out is that there is a bit of white noise hands-off the strings which actually is less noticeable on the overdrive channel when the OD channel is adjusted for its cleanest sound. Anyone else notice this? Otherwise, it is a great bargain, and the warranty is unbeatable.

I bought this amp about 2 years ago and it still works great. The mid-contour sounds very good but reduces the volume a little bit. I was very happy with this amp and its sound,i think this is one of the best in value. The 65 watts works well, but if you playing with a really loud drummer,or you like to play loud, you most likely want the Fender 212R with 100 watts. Fender makes great amps and my expierence with musicians friend has shown great customer service. I deffinately recommend this amp for anyone looking for a band practice amp, or just a practice amp. Not recommend for Gigs. Overall summary: Holds up, Great value, Great sound, but not loud enough for gigs or really loud bands.
