Fenders Flagship Amp

This amp has to be the best amp I have ever had since I started playing in about '64. I have sat my Twin Reverb right beside the CT SE and dialed in the sound of the Twin Reverb on the CT SE. I could not tell any difference in the sound between the two, and I seriously doubt that anyone else could either. Also did the same with my Deluxe Reverb and the CT SE. I bought this amp when they were first introduced, so it's been a few years now. The only problems I have had is one of the tubes went bad earlier this year. I replaced it and the sound was right back where it was supposed to be. Some avoid this amp because of the learning curve. They miss out on a great amp because of their refusal to learn. I agree with one reviewer that said, "This is the amp you make it. If it sounds bad at all its most defiantly user error".

That's worth repeating - "This is the amp you make it. If it sounds bad at all its most definatly user error".

So keep that in mind when you read the other reviews. The reason for the lower score on value is because of the high prices and price increases of everything lately. I find very few things that are worth the price asked. So I don't buy much these days. That lower score on value also brought down the overall score. Other than the price, it's a great amp. And probably more worth the money than other high priced amps I have seen.

Working and Rocking

I own the first Cyber Twin. I was playing daily and had to put my amp in the shop, so I bought an SE with the updates. First, I'll say that both amps are amazing in tone and features, but you must check your pre-amp tubes on initial delivery, and yearly if you play every day. Tubes are the life blood of this amp for tone and performance. If is sounds bad, one of your tubes is going, and I get nothing but raves from the heavy and clean sounds I get in all kinds of venues - large and small.

I use both amps daily still, with the Fender Cyber Foot Controller and expression pedals. Between these amps and 2 Strats, Tele Deluxe, Les Paul, and a custom 7 string Ibanez I can get any sound I want - period. And, if you want to spice it a bit, try different tubes for different sounds. I run Groove Tubes in the original and Tung Sol in the SE. I can get any clean or heavy sound from the SE with no problem... clear highs and mids, and no mud in the low end. Better yet, the tone is consistent at high volume levels.

Technology can be a bit daunting. Read the manual, as it can really help. Dollar for dollar, this amp is an outstanding value, as it can replace a fleet of amps. One note is playing a really cheap guitar through the amp can sound "tinny" and weak, but it is not the amp (cheap pick-ups in cheap guitars).

Proof. I've fooled some local guitar heads that thought I was rocking a Mesa Boogie Mark V or Road King half stack, or a JCM 800, or a Super Reverb, or a Twin Amp. In fact, they thought they heard a killer half stack with an excellent quality pedal board set up (I've got tons of guitar gear) when in fact I played thru the Cyber Twin SE with foot controller and expression pedal and my Gibson Les Paul with DiMarzio's.... these people were floored that all of the awesome sounds were coming from a combo amp!

I have had one of these for sometime now. It went unused for a while as I had other amps that had less of a learning curve. I bought it on impulse after watching a demonstration at a local music store. I will say now that I couldn't live without it. It is simply an awesome piece of techno wizardry, once we got to know each other. Coupled with the midi foot controller it is the best amp I can even imagine, and will do virtually anything. Anyone who doubts it's capabilities simply hasn't spent enough time learning how to use it. I can go to a gig with 200 different amps and on board effects in a twin sized package. And the power is great. From my perspective it doesn't get much sweeter.

It is loud for sure. The amp has enough power to break windows in your house or plenty of punch for even moderate size clubs. The trouble with this amp is that it sounds pretty lousy. Yeah the motorized knobs are quite the novelty at first but if you want good sound (especially distortion) get a real tube amp. It has lots of digital effects that are fun to play with but thats about the end of it. Save you money and buy a tube combo. At the price of this thing you could get a really great real-tube fender, vox, marshall or others. Way too over-priced. This amp is nothing more than a glorified solid state combo with knobs that move by themselves. Not impressive at all.

WOW!

WOW! Enough said. This thing made my Line 6 Spider Jam sound like a $39.00 amp. It is worth every penny. Every positive listing before me is true. I own 4 electric guitars and 3 of them are quite nice (Gibson Les Paul, Fender 62 Hot Rod & American Tele, Fender Mexi Fat Strat). All of them sounded better than I could have imagined with this amp. Of course everthing is not perfect. But the Tone, Tone, Tone, plus Versatility and Quality = Money well spent! Rock on!
