After having a MIM Strat for a year, I saw and bought this Tele in Bing Cherry. It is amazing. The factory set-up was great, and other players are as impressed as I was and still am. Yes, it's pricey...but sometimes you get what you pay for. Great Job, Custom Shop!

Justifying cost is a personal thing. You can buy a range of pickups to significantly transform any guitar - but not the guitar itself. The Custom Shop Tele I bought is simply in a class of it's own. The ash body and the thick neck make strings behave better - the action and smoothness are a delight to play with. That said, there are a lot of players who get on with the job of playing notes and aren't too sensitive about the machinery (no-one in your audience would hear the difference)and there are players who respond hugely to the instrument - sadly I'm one of them. It's an expensive way to get a particular piece of wood but it may be worth it.

This axe sounds really great. The tones and hardware are stellar except for the tophat switch which broke and was replaced. The weight is perfect and it is miles above a USA deluxe model. You could tour the world with this axe without a doubt.

It's a fancied up tele that's DEFINITELY for bragging rights....an american standard or a deluxe with a minimal amount of mods would beat this instrument. I own six strats, five teles (including this one) and couple of gibsons...among others. This guitar was bought on a whim. I thought it would add to my arsenal (not to mention help with my Telecaster addiction). LOOK: It's cool...it's a great instrument, but the extra dough simply ISN'T WORTH IT. period. Like I said, it's a dentist guitar...something a rich clown can spend his dough on to play in the cover band through a boutique amp once a month. You can get away with dropping a LOT less money for a comparable, even better, fender tele. (especially when you mod it with a 4 way switch and maybe some "nocaster" PUPS. ;)

I bought this guitar on a whim because I'm a telecaster devotee and couldn't resist its sexy appeal. Wasn't sure how much different it would sound compared to my American Deluxe telecaster until I played it with my band. Let me say, there is no going back after hearing this guitar sing. It's the difference between sounding like a pro and sounding like an amateur. The clean tone is bright and crisp but not sharp and brittle like a standard tele. With some distortion the lead tone has as much balls as a Les Paul, without the muddiness. It sounds as a Fender was intended to sound: hot and live, crisp and clear, resonant with an abundance of overtones. Oh, and did I mention the huge sustain? You get what you pay for when you buy a custom shop fender. Those who think that custom shop models are good only for the bragging rights (and I have come across more than a few who hold this opinion) simply don't have the experience to tell the difference.
