The Fender Classic Player Jazzmaster Special is an electric guitar that updates Fender's iconic Jazzmaster model with some thoroughly modern improvements: Hotter pickups, a redesigned Adjusto-Matic bridge with floating tremolo tailpiece, a 9.5" fingerboard radius and an improved neck pocket with increased back-angle for improved stability and sustain. The Classic PlayerJazzmaster guitar's tremolo plate has been moved closer to the bridge to increase break angle and sustain. A screw-in tremolo arm increases stability and control when executing divebombs.

I got this guitar 2 months ago and I can't stop playing it. I love the P90 type pickups on this, nice tones and its got great an extra kick to it which sounds good with overdrive or distortion. I also found it to be very versatile for many genres such as blues, jazz, rock and even punk rock and indie music. As for playablility, the neck is really smooth its easy to navigate around the frets. Quality wise it's decent, my neck was warped a lil bit but that's east to remedy, and I also found one small ding barely noticable. Overall it's a great but and its priced very reasonable. A great but for any serious players.

There is a lot of guitar for the price range here! Is it perfect? Should it be compared to an original or a RI? not at all.
I'm no Jazzmaster purist or anything, i just like good solid guitars. I have 2 teles and an SG 61RI, I've had strats and LP's. When i first played this guitar, i was actually shopping for a strat. Everyone, except for a JM strat, really left me wanting more. They were too glassy, not enough oomph or warmth. They just sounded like shattering glass. Which is fine, I'm not dissing strats but they weren't what I wanted to hear coming from my fingers. I was giving up and about to leave when i reached for the Jazzmaster. It was big, warm, clear and unique and i was floored. Bought it on the spot.
When i brought it home i noticed some neck work needed to be done, thats why i'm deducting some marks from quality.
The pickups are decent, but they're seems to be a bit of an overtone buzz to them through my marshall so i might upgrade them. My Orange loves this gutiar.
Fender changed the bridge to a tune-o-matic to solve some issues with the original version of sustain and buzzing on the bridge. It has done that well. They have also moved the trem closer to be bridge to help improve sustain. I can't way whether it has or not because i've not played an original before. But what has happened is that there is sympathetic resonance between the bridge and the trem that may, or may not, be desirable. In the previous version of the Jazzmasters you could get a buzz stop which both improved sustain, bridge buzz, and removed the sympathetic resonance. I would have preferred Fender to have done this instead. I'm trying to remove the resonance, though harmonically it fits the notes. It's just different than what i'm used to.
All in all, its got its own vibe and i'm both blown away and nit-picking about details.

purchased this for the updated design and classic jazzmaster feel and sound. having also a avri 62 jaguar in my collection, i was left wanting more. the classic player is a nice little guitar but the fit of the neck, finish of the body and sound of the pups caused me to sell it and purchase an american re issue jazzmaster to get that fender quality i expect. good first guitar none the less.

I've been playing for over 45 years. Over time, the Stratocaster has consistently been my favorite guitar - and don't laugh, but I actually prefer the MIM strats - tremendous value for the money. And so it was an impulse buy when I ordered the MIM Jazzmaster from Musician's Friend. What a pleasant surprise! The tone is marvelous through any amp. I especially like the controls. Having a 3 position toggle switch is much morte convenient than the 5 position switch found on most strats (I never use the hum cancelling positions). The addition of the rhythm circuit is also good, allowing for a fast change from one volume/tone setting to another.
The workmanship and quality on the one I received was excellent. Minimal adjustment of the action is all that was needed.
I just finished doing a 4 hour wedding reception with this guitar, and loved every minute of it! I will retire my strat and use this as my primary instrument.

I've wanted a Jazzmaster going back to about 1965. I finally had to get one, so I did. What a remarkable guitar ... I really love it as others here do (per their reviews). This and my SG Standard make my life complete (along with a Twin Reverb and other assorted Fender tube amps). After some minor set-up, this guitar is perfect!
