Grab some serious Ash

I've been in the market for a good Tele for some time, but didn't want to break the bank to get. I nabbed one of these a few weeks ago, and can't put the thing down. Guess, I found it all with this Special Edition (made only for Musician's Friend and Guitar Center) natural ash Telecaster. Some of these might have two- or three-piece bodies (I'm not certain), but mine is one-piece ash with some of the best figuring in the grain I've ever seen on a a slab of ash. I'm not usually a big fan of stock Fender pickups, with one exception -- I love Fender's Tex-Mex PUPS. As it happens, this guitar comes with them (confirmed with serial number info via email with Fender). Some guys might prefer the vintage bridge, but for me, the stock bridge on this is perfect and I much prefer it. I've had good luck with Mexi-made Fenders in the past and this is no exception. I was especially surprised by the neck and fretboard. The fret tangs are smooth (no picky ends) and the fretboard edges even feel like they're "rolled" -- smooth, broken in feel. It doesn't have the skinniest neck made by Fender -- this one is just right, with a little meat but not too much. Very, very comfortable on the hands and fingers (I have small hands and short fingers, and can fly on this). There are no flaws or quality issues with this guitar at all. It's a ton of guitar, and truly top-shelf quality, for a very little bit of money. If you want that Tele twang, this is a good way to go.

Just bought myself a Special Ed. Swamp Ash Tele and I couldn't be more pleased. Plays every bit as well as 1970's USA production Fenders I've owned and the fit and finish are first rate. 4-ply shell pickguard really looks classy. Would've preferred if it had vintage tuners and 3-barrel bridge but for this price not even an issue. Rock On Fender!

I've owned this guitar for a month now and I'm really surprised. I had owned a MIM 50's Tele from the 90's and the quality wasn't even close to this Tele. Maybe it's the ash body but the tone on this through my AC15 is just really sweet. I've got Fender Custom Shop Strat and a classic USA Hamer Sunburst that I've left at home for the last few gigs I've done. The fit and finish is good with the two piece body being matched really well. I've just left it as is without a pro setup because it's spot on with great fret ends (sometimes an issue with Fenders, intonation and playability. I bought this with the plan of carving up the routing and dropping in a set of P90's but I like it so much I'll probably just leave it as is.

I have now been playing this guitar for a few months and the "honeymoon" period has been extended! I LOVE the guitar. I own two strats, a les paul, and sheraton all great guitars but the tele is the most versatile guitar of the lot. I play in an active gigging band and play the tele all night long. It is great right out of the box. Even if it has to be set up it is well worth it. It is a North American tele.
