Nice Axe but high priced

I got this Guitar in 1983 new. I've played the hell out of it and wore the paint off of it! It need a bit of tender loving care now so I'm going to fix it up with a new bridge, mine is pretty rusty! Will have it set up again also. The down fall on the guitar is the pickups and the 3 way switch. I droped in a complete pickup/pickguard replacement,(single coil, single coil, humbucker which is single coil size) and lined the cavity with copper foil. It plays well and I use it for country and classic rock. Oh, I gave it a 5 on value cause in 1983 I got it new with case for 800 bucks. I would not pay what fender wants for it now.....just to many great guitars for that price range. Great guitar if you can pick up a good used one.

I bought one of these a while ago. I have to say at first I was not impressed. The action was not very good and there was not much I could do with it. So I sent it out for a much needed set up and it came back a different instrument. It sounds great especially for clean work, but it will also groan pretty good to should you need it. The neck radius takes a bit of getting used to, but like any guitar you have to spend some time with it. Finish is nothing short of amazing. All in all nice guitar, nice vintage sound.

My first guitar 20 years ago was a brand new black 78 strat and I have to say it was the worst guitar of the fifteen or so guitars I have owened, so much so I never bought fender again until now. I have to say this guitar is so much beter then the that 78 I have to give it all 5's. Im still not a Fender guy but lets face you cant get a Strat sound with an SG. Use a tube screamer for the heavy parts and a good amp and it will sing for you.

For classic rock, this guitar has that distinctive single coil Clapton sound. Good quality, fast neck, great action. Not a fan of the old-style tremolo's, prefer FR's myself but what are you gonna do?

Though guitars are diffrent individualy, I`ve played many of these and they were all great guitars. But to put it in words, a Fender Stratocaster is just a great guitar all around. Oh, and these pickups got BALLS!! Though I`d say a Texas Special would be better for the bridge position. And I`ve got to say, I`ve always loved rosewood fingerboards. Now, if I only had the money...Peace Out.
