My first guitar 20 years ago was a brand new black 78 strat and I have to say it was the worst guitar of the fifteen or so guitars I have owened, so much so I never bought fender again until now. I have to say this guitar is so much beter then the that 78 I have to give it all 5's. Im still not a Fender guy but lets face you cant get a Strat sound with an SG. Use a tube screamer for the heavy parts and a good amp and it will sing for you.

For classic rock, this guitar has that distinctive single coil Clapton sound. Good quality, fast neck, great action. Not a fan of the old-style tremolo's, prefer FR's myself but what are you gonna do?

Though guitars are diffrent individualy, I`ve played many of these and they were all great guitars. But to put it in words, a Fender Stratocaster is just a great guitar all around. Oh, and these pickups got BALLS!! Though I`d say a Texas Special would be better for the bridge position. And I`ve got to say, I`ve always loved rosewood fingerboards. Now, if I only had the money...Peace Out.

Simply put this guitar is great! Sounds fantastic, had the 5 way switch put in and now the tonal options are endless. Damn near a custom shop guitar. Instead of spending $$$ on a Gibson thats been tone chambered buy the Fender 62 reissue you'll save a ton of cash and won't feel cheated. (shame on you gibby). LOL. Great guitar great tone, great quality and a true classic. Fender is the one and only rock icon guitar that you can be an individual with imho.

I happen to own the Custom Shop prototype, (won by my wife in a contest from Fender) Although I love the way this guitar plays, I'm not in love with the stock pick ups. I'm considering swapping in Texas Specials and upgrading the 3 position selector for the 5 position. Kinda bring it closer to a Jimmie Vaughan style tone. (which I LOVE!) Playability is second to none however. First class craftsmanship. I play it through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, one dynamite combination. For blues and roots rock, you can't go wrong.
