This mahogany Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS guitar features 3 incredible-sounding Fender pickups: a Diamondback humbucker and two custom-staggered Tex-Mex single-coils. The American Select Strat has a fast, modern C-shape maple neck with rolled edges on the fretboard and 22 medium-jumbo frets. Crimson red transparent finish looks killer and highlights the mahogany wood grain.

I wrote an earlier review after purchasing this guitar for Christmas 2007. Two years later I still love playing this guitar. This guitar is great in every aspect, I have only been able to find one thing remotely wrong and that is a little fret noise on a couple of spots on the lower part of the neck, which depending on what sound you have going through your amp sometimes it's not even noticeable. This guitar is still a good value at the newer price but I feel real good that I bought when I did. If anyone can give feedback on whether to go back with Fender bullits or something else I'd appreciate the info. I have some Elixirs but I'm hesitant to put them on, don't know how they could sound better than the bullits.

I'm running this guitar with .011-.049 strings through a Fender Supersonic. The good - The single coils are clear with both power and detail. The mahogany version is definitely darker sounding than the ash, jazzier but a bit less "airy". I find the humbucker to be a nice compromise - smooth and rich but still with a bit of strat transparency. I like the whammy, though sometimes the G requires an extra bend to get it all back into tune after a long arm travel. I use the custom switching but wouldn't miss it if it were gone. The candy apple red is beautiful. The bad -BEWARE!!! The first time I did a string change I did exactly what the lit warns you against, bending a retainer finger on the nut and losing a ball bearing. That knocked a point off (design) quality since I don't have time to baby my working guitars. I was also warned by a GC salesman to buy an extra S1 volume pot and keep it handy due to iffy construction and the timelag to replace it if it goes bad. I'm not sorry I bought this guitar, but I'll avoid the ball bearing nut and the S1 next time.

Not much to say, Awesome guitar!

I'm glad I bought this guitar when I did, the price has been wavering back in forth for a while now, and I manged to grab it when it was somewhat cheaper. All in all really great guitar. I fell in love with Fender "bell tones" and had to have this after playing it. In my opinion the rosewood and mahogony give it a darker sound, but it deffinitely can handle the twangier songs from hendrix, the stones, and the like.Distorted, it has a nice spacey sound letting the chords ring through. Deffinitely worth saving for!

Awesome Guitar

This is an absolutely beautiful guitar. I have owned it for about two years now and I am (obviously) happy that I purchased it when it was significantly lower than the current price. However, this gem is still worth the current $$. Fit and finish are top quality, the tremolo and tuners are wonderful - no Floyd rose to be sure - but plenty of space in both directions and it never goes out of tune. Additional upside: changing strings is the easiest task of any guitar I've ever owned. Could the pickups be higher quality... sure, but for the price Fender is not necessarily going to break the bank. Very versatile guitar, the HSS system allows for a wide range of tonal variety fitting any playing style. As far as weight goes, it is a heavy strat but compared to my Les Paul Studio (also mahogany) its a feather. I will eventually take it to a quality music shop and change the pickups - but only because I will continue to play this guitar until they drag me to the nursing home. I Never get tired of looking at this guitar, as I said... ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.

Most of the reviews you have read so far on this guitar are spot on!!. I own 6 strats and 3 Tele's. I have had my mahagony strat for two years and can say it was and is a very good investmnet. Plays great was setup perfect out of the case. Finish was excellent. Same strings I have used for all my years as a fender player. Pick ups are great for my style of playing. Not a shreader but play everything else. Country, Oldies, Classic Rock, Christian contempory, Blues and this guitar is a very good tradeoff for the all in one switchblade. All my fenders have a different charactor and thats OK as wood ages and pickup age they tend to give a guitar it's own voice. I paid considerably less for mine but that was when they firts came out and I guess it was not a hot item at the time. Would not change a thing about the guitar other then strings every two weeks. I play a lot!! You can not go wrong on this purchase. Even if you happen to get a miss build MF stands behind everything they sell. I have used this company for many many purchases. Give it a try you will not be disappointed. Happy Playing
