I picked this up from Musician's friend a while back. I always loved the look and feel of the seventies strats and this guitar meets and exceeds most expectations. I wasn't crazy about the twangy stagerred pole piece pickups. I like rock. I installed a set of Black Lace sensor pickups in red, blue and silver then changed out the pickguard and trem cover. I now refer to this as the "Black Lace Strat" and love it. It's the best guitar I have ever owned. Get one!

I received this guitar for christmas and from the second I pulled out of the case I knew it was going to be a great addition to my rig. One of the best features has to be the finish. Mine is natural and the ash is just very unique. My other favorite features are the pickups they respond well to the music that I like. Each pickup is different but the neck is that classic fat strat tone. I own alot of guitars but this has become my most favorite, pair it up with a tube screamer and a tube amp and you have SRV tone or add delay and it sounds like John Mayer. Overall for the money this is a great buy. Remember just because its says made in mexico on the back of the headstock doesnt mean its a bad guitar. That old saying is true dont judge a book by its cover.

Back in 2006 before Musician's Friend made their move to the new store in Kansas City Mo. I found this guitar in three tone sunburst with rosewood fret board stuck between two racks of amps on a guitar hanger.I thought good guitar to bang around at home on so I made my offer and got it. What a deal.Took it home and it blew me away.Had it set up to the way I like to have my ax to play and now it is all I use. When it comes to a real sounding Strat or even Tele it has to be an Ash body and single coils only hands down. You will pay more for it than I did but is worth the bucks.

My Favorite Guitar

I bought my MIM 70's RI Strat second-hand, so some of the problems inherent in the design were already evident. My main guitar previously was a 2001 American Standard Telecaster, so it should tell you something that I bought the 70's RI Strat despite its drawbacks.

First, the negatives: I'm not a huge fan of the 2 string trees. The small parts, such as the 6 screws holding the bridge in place, were obviously cheap, given how quickly they needed to be replaced. Finally, I'm not a big fan of having to accommodate 2 string trees.

With that said, I LOVE this guitar. The neck is as perfect as I can imagine a guitar feeling; it actually makes me sound better! Between the neck shape and the size of the frets, I get a fantastically accurate sound.

I've read some reviews complaining about the sound of the pickups. To be honest, I wasn't sold on those at first either but I simply lowered the high strings to kill the brightness and the guitar sounds magnificent now.

I'm playing post-punk/new wave style music, with the Strat running through a Vox AC-15 and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (both 1x12s), with pedals that include an Ibanez TS9, a Line 6 Echo Park, a Boss DD-3, a Boss BF-3, an EHX Small Stone, a Marshall Vibratrem, a Boss RV-5 and an MXR MicroAmp. This guitar really loves all of the pedals and amps. It sounds especially good plugged straight into the AC-15 with the top boost/gain cranked.

Simply put, I cannot believe that a MIM guitar could look, feel, and sound this good... but I must accept the compliments I've received from other guitarists since I started playing the 70's RI Strat!
