This gorgeous all-tube combo amp is completely hand-wired using premium components.
The Fender '57 Twin Tweed Combo Amp effectively reproduces the 1955-1957 edition's low-powered 5E8A circuit, which produces 40W into a pair of 12" Alnico-magnet speakers. Its harmonically rich, clean tones are great for authentic rock, blues, and country playing. When cranked up, the Twin-Amp's fat, sophisticated distortion tone works wonderfully in many modern musical situations.
The '57 Twin-Amp gets its power from a pair of USA-made GT6L6-GE output tubes. The power supply includes Fender's rarely seen '50s dual rectifier arrangement, which uses two - 5U4 rectifier tubes. With this design, power amp compression, or sag, is more subtle than it is in many Fender Tweed designs. The preamp contains four high-gain 12AX7 tubes, three of which may be substituted with 12AY7s for the original '50s low-gain sound, if desired. There's also an internal bias pot that allows easy substitution of various 6L6 tube types.
Control panel details include Normal and Bright volumes, 4 Inputs (2 Normal, 2 Bright), Treble, Bass, and Presence knobs.
The '57 Twin's finger-joined solid pine cabinet resonates with a warm, woody tone. The amp is covered in genuine lacquered tweed, and a vintage brown/gold grille cloth and leather strap handle complete a very vintage package. Fitted cover is included.

I own a Fender Custom Shop Strat, and I have been looking for an amp to get the most out of it for a few months. I quickly focused on Fender amps and researched and then played every one I could find at multiple music stores. Many great options (Bassman, Twin Reverb, Supersonc, Hot Rod Deville), but nobody had the 57 Twin for demo. Yesterday I walked into a small dealer and that was the only Fender in the shop. I grabbed a Custom Shop Strat off the wall and plugged in - 45 minutes later they were turning the lights off and politely asking me if I was finished. If they would have let me stay I would still be there today. Playing through that amp was the most soulful, enjoyable and satisfying experience I have ever had with my clothes on.
There is little point in trying to explain how this amp sounds or what makes it so fantastic. You MUST play this amp before buying anything. Either find one to demo or order one that you can return if you are not happy (not that you ever will, but for peace of mind). It is a lot of money but some things you just cannot put a price on - playing a Fender Custom Shop Strat through a 57 Twin Reissue is one of them.

I have used this amp on several occasions, the control layout is simple, lacking a midrange control, but the set amount is fine. The tone is superb. Distorted it is incredible (and loud!) and the clean is crisp, and dynamic. Do youourself a favor and go out to your nearest Fender dealer and try one out. You won't regret it.

This is one amp that stands front and center from any other I've played, bar none. I did change out the 12AX7 preamp tubes for 12AY7. It was too powerful for my taste at first but after the swap the amp provides a great clean Fender sound and breaks down at just the right level. I thougt not having reverb would be a problem but the presence of this "hand wired" masterpiece doesn't need electronic reverb to get that great sound. My 4.5 on Features was because there aren't really much in the area of Features, but then it's pure esoteric. What else can you ask for. Expensive but then most things in life are...

My best amp

This is not only the best amp I own, it's the best amp I've ever owned. I still have a number of sought after vintage amps, but this one blows them all out of the water right out of the box. Small changes in treble and bass controls make huge differences in the overall sound of this amp. It's almost like they control way more than just tone. Almost like modeling. I have made this amp sound GREAT for blues. I even had it sounding exactly like some of the early Buddy Holly sounds of the 50's and even early Eagles. I can't say enough good things about this amp. Yes, it's pricey but worth every penny. This amp is an investment in great sound. You might be wondering how I could rate an amp without vibrato, reverb, distortion, etc. a 10 on Features. Here's why. For years, I have been relying on effects pedals to get the sounds I have been looking for. Effects pedals lead to sloppy playing techniques (at least in my case). Once I plugged into this amp and spent some time playing with the controls, I got the sounds I was looking for over the years (with no pedals - except my tuner). If you get a chance to try this amp, try it with no pedals. Hope you'll be as impressed as I am.

What A Great Amplifier

I decided to buy the '57 Fender Twin tweed amp after reading about it in a Fender catalog and then trying one out at a local music store. The tone on this amp is exceptional. Subtle changes in Treble and Bass control settings results in actual changes in tone. Example: You don't have to go from 2, to say 6 on the treble setting to actually hear a difference in the amp. The fact that it doesn't have a Midrange tone knob doesn't matter. You can still elicit a wide range of tones with just the Bass/Treble knobs. I find that the bright channel gives you some very nice glassy highs, whereas, the normal channel rolls some of these out of the mix. This isn't a bad thing. Depending on where I'm playing, I now have the luxury of this feature. I've been using this amp at the gigs I play and it may have only 40 watts, but it can hang with any level of sound. It has a lot of headroom and breaks up nicely at about 6-7 on the volume setting. I gave it a 9 on quality because the first few times I used it, I noticed a sudden increase in volume and the amp would distort when this happened. After careful inspection of the hand-wired circuitry, I noticed a capacitor for the Treble control had not been soldered to the pot. Easy fix, but you really wouldn't expect something like that coming from the Fender Custom Shop. Oh well, I guess we're all human. I'm just glad to have it and look forward to many more hours of tone!
