I've been extremely peaved at Fender for a number of years for not offering the cool colors that once made them such a hip company back in the 60s. I think the color of a guitar really dictates a lot of it's personality. I longed for the days of Fiesta Reds, Burgandy Mist, Sonic Blue, Vintage Yellow, even a bright orange, sparkling gold, the colors that made Fender the sunny Cali company that it is. So when these came out, with matching headstocks to boot, with 3 GREAT classic Fender colors, I was all about it. I don't own one yet, but I had a chance to play the Daphne Blue model for some time through a Super Sonic amp. It sounds every bit as good as my 2002 American Strat and I have been appreciating the rosewood boards a lot more lately. I think you have to have a rosewood fretboard if the headstock is matching because it really sets off the guitar esthetically. I think the American Stratocaster is a very well built guitar and I love the fact that the bridge pickup is high output and the tone control is wired to it. I'm not lying when I say you can play metal on these guitars and make it sound incredibly crunchy and thick, not the ice pick highs normally associated to the Strat's bridge. Roll off the tone to maybe just 7, and you've got the most versatile guitar on the planet. The neck pickup could be more pronounced, like a 62, but it still sounds nice. If you're into the CLASSIC Fender colors on the modern line like me, then get this guitar. You get the modern fit, finish and upgrades with a sweet retro color scheme. I still hate Fender's current "standard" colors, they are incredibly neutral, boring and lame, but thank god this is a step in the right direction..

I have been wanting a daphne blue or sonic blue guitar for some time. Then I saw these and it was an impulse buy. I bought mine on the first day of the rebate being valid and got it in the mail a week later. It is stunning. The color and matching headstock are great. At first I was disapointed that it did not come with a maple neck, but the rosewood is really growing on me. It really looks nice with the blue. Aside from all the eye candy, it is your typical American Standard Strat. I gave it a high Features grade for the color, headstock and the new vintage looking saddles. Quality was only a 4 because it is not a custom shop guitar, but as your standard production guitar, it is very nice. I know these things were mid 9's a year ago, but I gave it a good value grade because of the rebate. with it, It comes close to the old price. Overall a great guitar with some cool 50's colors. The case is much better than the old guitar-shaped molded ones, but not as nice as the hardshell cases. I will definitely upgrade to keep this nice. The only thing special edition about this one is the colors and the headstock. Everything else is production. Overall a great guitar if your looking for these colors like me.
