This Epiphone half-stack includes the Valve Junior Head and Valve Junior Extension Cab.

Part of Epiphone's Valve series of tube guitar amps, the Valve Junior Head is a straight-forward, single-ended Class A tube amp. This head version of the Epiphone Valve Junior tube guitar amp includes features not found in its combo cousin. It has DC filaments for both the preamp and power sections to reduce unwanted filament hum. It also has 4-, 8-, and 16-ohm speaker outputs so you can drive any kind of guitar speaker from a single 8" box to a 4x12" cab. Simple to operate, it delivers fabulous tube tone from singing to searing with a simple twist of the volume knob. Like the combo version, the Epi Valve Junior Amplifier Head delivers 5W power with one 12AX7 tube in the preamp and an EL84 in the power amp. Sports stylish vintage-style red and black vinyl covering with white piping and a cream front panel.

Featuring birch plywood construction, superior audio design, and cool retro looks, the Epiphone Valve Junior Extension Cab is the perfect match for Epiphone's Valve Junior Head. The speaker cabinet is equipped with a custom designed, 16-ohm, 12" Eminence Lady Luck speaker rated for 70 watts RMS.

Epiphone Valve Junior Half Stack Features:

  • Single-ended Class A tube circuit
  • 12AX7 preamp tube

Sweet Tone

I really like this amp and cab. For starters, I don't like effects on amps, and that led me right away to this. I do use either an Ibanez analog delay or a Guyatone digital delay - but that's about it for effects for me.

I experimented with different tubes right away and settled on an early 60s Amperex 12AX7 that I plucked from a Norelco reel to reel, and a vintage Hitachi EL84 that I got off ebay for $10. I've made no other mods. My Epi Casino sounds great through it - from jazzy mellow to crunchy rock. My Strat sounds excellent through it as well - from spot on 70s Clapton tone to cutting leads.

Turning the volume about 1/2 way will start to produce microphonics - or overdive in guitar parlance. At about 3/4, it's just beautiful tube driven overdrive - nice.

It looks cool, is extremely well built, is easily modded, and sounds great. If it's vintage tone you want on a budget - look no further.

The Epiphone Valve Junior just saved me $1,800.00. I have been playing guitar for three years, and have suffered through three digital amps. I was going to break down and get one of the smaller Marshall JVMs because I just could not get the distortion I wanted in several other amps I tried - even with pedals. After doing some research, I decided to take a chance on the Epiphone Valve Jr. I am so happy now. It takes pedals very well, despite not having an effects loop. I use it with the Metal Zone when I need distortion, and clean for Jazz. Man, does it sound good to my aching ears, even at lower volumes. There was a slight muddiness in certain ranges with some of my guitars so I swapped out the tubes and now it is open and clear, no matter the guitar. I still plan on getting a '65 Deluxe Reverb for the extra watts, but with this amp has such great volume, warmth, and clarity that I am not in a hurry.

I'm just floored by the tone that comes out of this. I've been playing for over 15 years, owned dozens of expensive tube amps, but none of them were as fun and easy to use as this little monster.

I play an AV Jazzmaster with Duncans through this and it really sings. I know alot of guys mod these heads but mine sounds great right out of the box. The Eminence Lady Luck is a great speaker, and its cabinet is built like a tank, but not too heavy.

I challenge anyone out there to find a similar setup for even twice the price. Great for studio, rehearsal, and even larger clubs with a mic in front.

I hope the other amp makers follow this trend and start making AFFORDABLE gear that SOUNDS GOOD. I will never pay $2000+ for a Mesa or Vintage Fender again.

Great Amp for the Price!!!!!

This guitar amp blows me away. I purchased it on the recomendation of my brother (Who is an amp snob!!!). I must say this amp sounds great and for only 5 watts it is very loud. My electric guitarist at church plays a 100 watt head and 4-12 cab combo and this amp had better sound without having to destroy the stage volume. I have only had the amp a month and it seems very quality. I cannot say anything on the longevity of the amp but my brother has played his for years with only changing the tubes. Very good amp for the price. After the warranty is over I will be modding it for the extra voicings.
