Sublime tonal quality with quiet operation from DC-powered filaments and superb definition from a solid-state rectifier make the Epiphone So Cal 50-watt one of the finest amplifiers we've had the pleasure to play through. A unique EQ switch lets you choose between independent treble and bass vs. treble that rolls off the bass when boosted and vice-versa. Presence control lets you sharpen up the sound while 25W (triode) option lets you drive the power section hard without driving the neighbors nuts. Contour knob presents dramatic tonal options and the tube-driven reverb is silky smooth and natural. Multiple speaker outs for great flexibility onstage. Works great with the optional So Cal 412SL cab. (See accessory box on this page.)

Winner of a GuitarWorld gold award for overall value!

So Cal 50 amp Head

I am using a Gibson les paul Standard with a Mesa Engineering rectifier cab Loade with celstion Vintage 30 speakers.y review is based on the first week. The first time i plugged it in the reverb did not work and the red light stayed on even when i switched the cannel to clean. Ok i know a little about amps so i had replace the tube that controls the reverb. Now the reverb works. I tried using the gain channel and did not like it. I tweaked the eq settings and the amp comes alive. I can get a good overdriven tone , a distorted tone and if you reverse the volume and gain controls you can get a marshall 1959 tone. Ok that said what id do not like about this is when you are on the clean channel the gain control bleeds over in the clean channel and you have to turn it all the way down to play clean. So you have to either play dirt or set it up clean and use a pedal to play dirty. I emailed support to see if they will fix these problems under warranty but they have not returned my email yet. I do think you need to retube this thing to get a better sound i recommend JJ's or the Mullard re issues. I have them both and rock. This amp seems to be a cros sbetween a marshall and soldano hybrid. Yes i can say this because i own a Marshall 1959 & 1987, peavey 5150 , laney gh100l and a soldano slo. This amp if you get it retubed bias everyone will want to know what it is your playing. I use a SRB808 pedal.

I had one of these so - cal amps but returned it becuase a filter cap went bad. ((AT THE TIME)) it was "closeout" item and I thought better to just get rid of it and move on. Now that I see that they are STILL IN PRODUCTION I wish like hell I would have tried for another one. What I got instead was a Carvin MTS3200. Its a fine amp, well built and all, but only a rivet head could like the way it sounds. This so-cal is such a sweet sounding amp not a day goes by that I don't wish I still had it. I'm ditching the carvin and buying another one of these. I will wait till may, hell I would wait till christmass. This is NOT A METAL AMP. it's a bada** amp FOR THE REST OF US.

This is a really good amp for playing blues to rock, but did not suit me. The clean does not have as much low end as I like, and it breaks up at very low volume. The distortion did not have any punch to it for my needs. I play mainly rythm, but if you are a lead player, this amp is for you. I will stick with my valveking 212 combo, and use the 4x12 cab I have as an extention for a deeper low end. I am returning this head and exchanging it for the Demonizer dual tube preamp distortion stompbox by Damage Control to try out with my valveking.

I've owned the So-Cal for a while now, and I have to say it is an awesome amp. The price was reasonable, and it sounds a lot better than what I thought it would for the cost. IT can run at 50 W and at 25, (Better for a blues tone). If you are looking for a good Combo Head that won't cost a fortune, the So-cal is for you.

I had my doubts when I heard about this thing. I only play epiphone guitars but I didn't think that an Epiphone amp would be good. I played it at the local guitar store and traded in my Vox AD100 VT that next day for it. The clean still sounds a slight bit dirty and the dirty channel has just the right amout of distortion for what I play. Now this is definantly not a metal amp, i play powerpop and pop punk music. All in all, it's the best for the value and the type of music i play. NOT A METAL AMP.
