Plays and Sounds Like A Lot More Money

I bought this guitar about three years ago and I was happy with it from the start. The setup and playability were superb, and the fit and finish were what drew me to it. Since then, I have been using it in a country band, playing old Hank and Buck covers, and it has performed great. I'm a rhythm player in an electric band, so tonal demands aren't a high priority; if I were going to get into some fingerstyle or purely acoustic suff, I would probably look for a higher end guitar that might offer more tonal nuance. That said, this guitar is balanced and offers a nice upper register that cuts through the mix. I fitted it out with a Fishman Matrix, and that has worked out fine. The guitar stays in tune, is very playable , the vintage sunburst finish is beautiful. I almost bought a Masterbuilt, but it didin't really outperform this guitar for money. I recommend this guitar.

I wanted a couple guitars to add to my collection...two to be exact. So I bought this one and a Martin SWOMGT. Interesting way to compare two instruments. I have never played either one until I got them so it was a nice way to compare playability and sound. Of course the Martin speaks (literally) for itself. However, this DR-200S is an awesome buy. I grew up playing an Epiphone acoustic throughout the 70s and all through the 80s. That guitar is long gone...just plain wore it out. This DR-200S is a step or two above that one. But it plays wonderfully well and sounds, well, like a nice dreadnaught. I use XLs so I immediately changed them. The picture doesn't do it justice at all. The sides and back are a beatiful hue and the grain is well defined. The pickguard is a light tortoise shell (not black). Made in China. Nice guitar to throw in a HSC and lug around. Money well spent

I have an existing Yamaha acoustic and wanted to stop up to something better in the $200-250 price range. I tried Martin, Seagull, Takamine, Mitchell, Yamaha, Fender, and Epiphone. The Epiphone was the class act of the bunch. I even tried Epiphone's DR-500R. The quality of tone, volume, quality, and workmanship of the DR-200S really impressed me. The guitar comes with a solid spruce top which will improve with age, vs laminated which generally does not. Overall, I love my Epiphone. You will too.

I have just received two of these guitars that I ordered for friends of mine. I have several much more expensive acoustic guitars myself. Overall I think them of exceptional build quality. There is however one caveat: They both came with extremely high action. (Im am a very experienced player and have done a lot of set-up on guitars and I know what players want. If chords played in the 1st position are out of tune because of the increased pull down to the frets, the action is too high.) I assume they are this way so that individuals can set the action where they want and some may want them high like this, but you should be aware that you'll probably have to spend some additional money to get them set up properly. Having said that, they are still great values, even after the set-up fee is added on.
