Get it set up and you'll be happy

This goes for any cheap guitar right out of the box or off the shelf. I got this as a gift and it wouldn't stay in tune at all and didn't play so great. Duh. I took it to a very good shop (their main expertise is restoring classic guitars). I thought I'd need new tuners. Wrong! All it needed was a better nut. They replaced the nut and properly set up everything else. Now it plays and stays in tune GREAT. Anyone who expects an inexpensive guitar right out of the box to play great and complains about the "stock strings" is baffling to me.

For Show & Tell Only

I purchased one of these guitars out of curiosity. After all, it did carry a list price of over $400.00. As a playable gitbox, it's a total waste of money. One pickup, one sound. If you're into neck buzz and rough frets, then you'll love this piece of wood. If your just looking for something to hang on your wall, it'll make a nice $80.00 conversation piece. Personally, I suggest you save your money for something that's not all show & no go. Good luck

Considering the price, not too bad

I really bought this for eye candy ( I am an Illinois fan). For the positives, the setup was not bad- no buzzing at all but the action was too high for my tastes. The graphics were nice, and the strap and screened gig bag was a nice touch. Negatives are the stock strings and tuning keys. The bridge pickup is not that bad, as I played it through a Peavey XXX, Crate palomino, and a pod XT Live through studio monitors. You can definitely get that warm Les Paul tone. Considering this is a alder/mahogany top and non-premium tonewood, I doubt a pickup upgrade is going to do that much. The neck is geared more for Rhythm playing, not shredding- but that is obvious. The tailpiece on this gives it some very nice sustain, perhaps better than a Tune-o-matic. Bottom line- replace the tuning keys and you have your self a decent back up axe that allows you to show your school pride.

Nice Wall Ornament

Great deal, but wouldn't pay more than I did for it. I really like the tone of the bridge pickup, but since it's the only pickup it really only has one sound.

Nice finish, I just really wish it had the Contoured body rather than the flat top. If you like College Sports, get it for your wall, but don't waste big bucks if you want a playable guitar.

i am a guitarist and for my dads b-day bought this for him. it was a complete waist! The guitar is strictly a decoration item. The frets buzz and its is constantly out of tune. I guess you get what you pay for!
