4 years and sounding better!

I bought this guitar 4 years ago from a store. I got the vintage sunburst version, which I think is beautiful. The Epiphone E fell off. Big deal. At first, the action was a little high, but I replaced the bridge saddle with a bone one that I shaped to fit, and sanded it slightly shorter to lower the action a tad. I think the stock action would have been fine if it weren't for the transducer pickup under the saddle raising it a little. I also compensated the new bone piece to match the b string compensation on the original by filing it backwards. Next, I dropped in some bone bridge pins and cut a custom bone nut to replace the plactic ones. With a little attention to the truss rod, I now have a guitar that is every bit as playable and sounds every bit as sweet as anything on the market. The biggest thing is to replace as much plastic as you can with bone, ivory, or corian. This thing has taken a beating, but still feels solid as a rock today. It's my baby, and I own pricier ones to compare it to. This thing is worth more than the current price, as-is, just have it at least set up by a pro, preferably a luthier.

This guitar for me, is what I brought home from the store in its price-range, as I was not willing to spend 1000$+. Does the job just fine. Love the "in guitar" tuner. Sounds above average compared to ovation, ibanez and yamaha, again in its price range. Feels solid, yet it isn't a hard-play.

Adequate stage guitar, excellent value

Pretty impressive for the money. I have owned and worked with a lot of guitars. This one has excellent build quality and finish for an entry-level guitar. Very good playability, nice job on the frets and binding, and a lovely bookmatched sunburst top. Holds a tuning very well. The setup out of the box was good for average/moderate playing. The tone is generic, but very even with good clarity and projection. The pickup is better than most acoustic guitar pickups. I would have no problem with this as a stage guitar, especially considering how good it looks. I would be more reluctant to use it for detailed recording work, because the sound is a bit uninspiring in terms of depth. New strings help, but there is no woody depth or resonance here. All that being said, this is a much better starter instrument than what was available when I first started out. The quality of construction makes me think it will last a long time, and the spruce top may start to sound better with age.

Two things I should say before giving my opinion is that I bought mine from a store and I have a sun burst finish version. I thought maybe the review could help some people out there so I'm giving it a go. I got this guitar as my 1st guitar about a year ago. Its great. I put phosphor bronze strings on mine and it looks great and it sound great. It stays in tune for a good amount of time. If your looking for a solid build that will last you a while I suggest getting this. I've been retarded enough plenty of times to band the guitar here and there. There are some small dents on it but the paint hasn't chipped and its literally like I haven't banged it at all.

I bought this guitar as my first acoustic, and I love it. It almost has the sound of my dad's Martin. The only thing that I did not like at first is the pickup did not work at first. But, other than that, it's a pretty sweet guitar.
