The Engl Steve Morse Signature Amp Head features a 3-channel amp concept including a 100W EL 34 power amp section. Channel One can also deliver sparkling clean sounds to support Steve's awesome finger picking technique, but be aware: Channel One can also deliver fat crunch sounds, since it has more gain than you would expect from a standard clean Channel. Channel Two features pure rock sound, designed to respond fast. Well dressed midrange and gain structures will let you cut through any mix. Channel Three gives you the most intense sounds you might have heard so far.

The new ENGL MID CONTROL MATRIX was perfectly designed to give a maximum of midrange control options. Four midrange controls that interact with each other plus a tone switch that can be used in conjunction with the controls give the player 8 different midrange sounds to choose from. The overall Hi / Lo gain switch allows the 3 channels to be played in two different gain modes which will support 6 available gain structures at a glance. A more affordable SE EL34 with its own features

This EL34 Engl Steve Morse Signature 100 is a high quality, professional modern high gain amplifer. There is no doubt about it. It falls in the SE tone arena and to me has more of smoother thick tone. There is not the problem of too much highs or presence or a flat processed tone with this amp. The tone is in most all reguards a thick smooth tone.. extreme settings of bass and/or treble will take you out of that zone but this amp is all about a thick, smooth high gain tone ( this amp has a very tight gain and low end response) I wouldn't call this amp vintage sounding.. there isn't alot of air in the tone, even at lower gain settings and the amp really isn't tuned for a scooped tone but of course you can get that tone with extreme setting of the tone controls. The high / low gain switch on all 3 channels is very usable.. it takes the tone from from thick and smooth to even thicker and smoother :) and the tone button does some good stuff on all 3 channels. Clean channel is really much better than average.. really good tone over a wide variety of gain settings..very usable tone options on the clean. My bottom line opinion is that this amp can satisfy anyone...does the Powerball with 6L6 power and voicing nail the death metal sound better.. yes but this amp will definitely do that and better than many others. This amp can also be satisfying for a player who only plays clean or only wants a crunch type tone. Definitely an amp to consider for the player who only wants to own one amp and cover all the bases.
