Rear Left-facing

4-channel, all-tube powered head, the Powerball amp head offers sound-shaping options unrivaled by any other. Designed to satisfy the exacting demands of discerning players, it delivers all the tonal hues and colors you need to paint the most vivid musical pictures imaginable. Housed inside this newly designed enclosure is a powerhouse 100W amp boasting 6L6GC tubes. The Engl amp head delivers the sonic goods you need to dial in everything from contemporary ultra-high gain lead tone to crystal-clear clean and punchy crunch sounds. An astonishing amount of gain reserves, remarkable tonal versatility, and bone-rattling bottom end have crowned the Powerball king of the hill among modern-day guitar amp heads.

Thanks to its ability to crank out tight, focused low end, glossy top end and jaw-dropping sound pressure levels, the Powerball amp head provides the contemporary guitarist with richly detailed tone and the kind of cut-through-the-din assertiveness that sets standards for amps in this class. And in keeping with the Engl tradition of engineering excellence, it sports a host of hip features: a second master volume, electronic power amp monitoring, an adjustable FX loop, and a Depth Punch knob that shapes the head's response by beefing up the low end. But that's not the last word on this Engl head's innovative features: you also get two different sound voicings, Open and Focused. Engl created these voicings to extend the range of lead sounds you have at your disposal by tweaking mid-range response to suit different playing styles and applications.

There are a few more handy features to rave about: It ships with a Z-5 Custom Footswitch Port. Designed to accept the ENGL Z-5 footswitch (sold separately) that lets you control all key sound-shaping functions remotely. ENGL has added another new audiophile wrinkle—an adjustable noise gate for the Lead channel. Old world craftsmanship and highest quality components are part of what makes Engl amp heads so special, and the Powerball is no exception.

All I can say is, WOW!!!!!!! This Amp is a highly versitle BEAST. Mentioned in the past reviews, this amp can do it all; from cleans, to 7 string rythems, to sweeping picking / shredding. I played and owned a Peavery 5150, Randall mTS, Marshall JCM2000 TSL and a Line 6 Vetta, and those amps were good but they were missing that one thing that Engl gave me, PURE AGGRESSIVE, FOCUSED TONE!!!!! My gear consists of a Gibson Gothic EMGS (81/85), SOvtek Cab. Loaded with (G12T-75s, Vin.30s), and a decimator Niose reduction pedal to take care of what the built in noise suppersor doesnt. Except for that, I say this amp is flawlessly built as well as tone built.

I fell into this amp after trying out countless others including Marshall, Peavey, Crate, and Bugera. This clarity and tone of this amp is unbelievable and it even has a really nice clean. The crunch channel has really nice tone as well and can get a good southern rock sound. The gain channels are where this amps sweet spot is. They are by far the best I have played and heard from many amps. I don't have to run any sort of overdrive through it. The amp also has a boost, which eliminates the needs for a boost (it's still optional). Sustain is amazing. The noise gate is alright as well. Lots of options to tweak the sound.

ENGL Powerball is the way to go!

The ENGL Powerball is loaded with every variety of tones you can imagine. From bright leads, to defined punchy low gains, the spectrum of sound that this amp can produce amazes me more and more each day.

The only problem I have with the amp is that you need to pay for the appropriate footswitch. I am just using and old marshall footswitch to change channels, but ultimately the ENGL can do so much more with the real footswitch.

The price for ENGL amps is always high, only because the quality of the amps is insurmountable. Definitely worth the price.

If you are a searcher of that "grail tone". Then look no further. trust me, buy it.

I love this amp i wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. I also have an 5150 II and a Mesa Dual rectifier. Compared to the 5150 it is not rivaled, well i run a sonic maximizer 882i, DBX 31 band EQ, and a noise suppressor and its about equal to that of the ENGL. I suggest obtaining a boss NS-2 with the ENGL to eliminate those squeals, it wont perfectly eliminate but if you have the proper muting technique it will work flawless.

OMG!

This head is freaking amazing! I can't believe how brutally the high gain channels are voiced. This amp is a must have if you play any kind of modern metal. The added bottom and open/focused features really allow you to dial in the right tone for your needs, and the built in noise gate rocks. I've owned and played through countless high end amps, and this one continiuos impressing me where the others fell short. Just do yourself a favor and avoid spending money on other amps that will fall short in the end, buy an ENGL.
