ENGL 180 MIDI Preamp WOW!

I'm playing a Les Paul standard 50: 2008, PRS hollowbody I, running into a Mesa: LoneStar combo, Rivera 320W stereo tube amp, THC 212 cabs, ENGl 180 Pre with TC Nova system, Fulltone stereo Dejaverb and expanding. This preamp will let you throw out all your overdrive pedals. With just the Fact presets you can go from warm sweet jazz and finger picking to clean lead with exquizet over tones and very touch responcive dynamics to rich growling power chords. This preamp has let me explore things I never did before. Features I should mention are the interactive volume controls. turn up the gain nob to push the tubes more and the volume after the eq and fx loop adjusts to keep your sound level. You then use the master to increase and decrease your main. You can really hear the differences in guitars and my stick playing through this thing. They each have their own tone and charictor now. For my tastes I tend to back off the highs a bit and add to the bass and low mids but with 21 noches on each nob you can always find your tone. Saving your own presets is easy and you can save everything except master and include program changes for other midi pieces in your rig. Front nobs and finish are beautiful, highly polished, with very solid clean nobs and buttons. The preamp and amp are now known as the Beauty and the beast!

This piece was really impressive right out of the box. The tonal options were limitless and inspiring without tweaking. Engle did not give me a manual so I only began to dig into this unit, yet it is surprisingly intuitive to use. Every preset was well voiced and diverse. The preamp is responsive to each guitar I tried out through it, and each preset responded differently in a positive way really bring out subtleties of the guitar your playing and the preamp. Only compliaint is the level knob in the back protrudes so caution is needed when moving this unit when not racked. Otherwise one of the nicest peices of gear I have ever come across.
