There are a lot of haters on the NYC Reissue. Let me tell you I tried a 70's version and it didn't hold a candle to the Reissue. Maybe the one I tried was faulty but the Reissue was just better. For the price you can't beat the Big Muff Pi. It is a good rock sounding fuzz. Must Buy!

With just three knobs this little pedal can do about anything. Of course its great when playing Black Sabbath to White Stripes. Its got enough crunch and the great thing about it is that when you turn the pedal on over a clean channel, you don't really hear any feedback! And yes, you can play metal on it! If you turn the tone up to about 3 o'clock it gets that metalish sound to it. You can get a nice Metallica tone out of it if you do it right. And if you like straight up White Stripes, I would advise you to get an MXR M-133 Micro Amp Pedal if you want that total hard Jack White guitar crunch. You can get the same crunch without it but the MXR just gives you more boost!

Really good, if you know what you're doing

I originally bought this pedal as a beginning guitarist, so I didn't know what I was getting into. I couldn't get the sounds I really wanted because I kept my amp at a low volume. I also regretted buying this pedal because I thought it was for old school rock and not hardcore or metal, which is mostly what I play.

Well, today, I play my amp a little louder (so if it doesn't sound good, try raising the volume a little). I also learned how to balance out the tone and sustain to my liking perfectly. I play hardcore, metal, pop, and some pop rock with this pedal and it sounds so good I can't stop playing. So, basically, if you are a beginner or something I don't recommend this pedal because you may not want to pay the money for something you might not use to its fullest potential, but if you know your stuff, you will love this thing.

Best Distortion Pedal Ever

If you know anything about guitar tone, you know that you need to use a tube amp's distortion to get a natural sound that isn't over processed or mechanical sounding. With that being said, this is the best secondary distortion source to use.

It sounds amazing just over a clean sound to get a classic fuzz, but it's even better to use over a tube amp's distortion to create sounds that are ridiculously original. Highly, highly recommended. Solid construction, amazing sound.

One warning, this is a BIG pedal. It's about the size of a small, crappy effects processor you get when you first start playing. One side note as well, I use a Fender Jaguar with all single coils and it's twangy to begin with, so if you are using anything with humbuckers beware, it produces a lot of low end and may become muffled.

Cool little bass effect!

A buddy of mine left this at my house, so I thought I would try it out and see what it sounded like. Since I blew a fuse or something in my guitar amp, I thought, what the heck, and decided to try it on bass. This is going to sound odd, but using a spector 6 string and a squire 4 string through an American Audio PA cab, I get an amazing deep punchy tone! Dial in a bit more gain and I got a really cool MUSE-esque tone that was great for some tech-funk and alternative style stuff. Also sounds great through a traditional bass amp on both basses. Sorry I didn't get to test it on guitar, but this is now my effect of choice for bass. Prior to stumbling over this, I rarely used effects, only some eq and a bit of gain when the situation called for it, but this effect has given me an entire new outlook on tone shaping. Give it a try for a great MUSE effect on bass!
