This Will Do Fine

I work as a songwriter with a partner in my studio where we record demos for other artists. He does most of the writing, while I have to play everthing else, enginEAR, mix and master. I found out early, that as a guitar player, my hands were too small for bass and small basses didn't have enough bottom. Since nobody makes a true bass emulator, I listened to the demo at this site and thought this might work. The EH actually works a lot better than I thought for my needs. I run a Gibson Blueshawk into it, and run it through a Ampworks bass modeling processor, direct into the board and there you have it: fast, clean(or dirty), punchy strong bottom. As a blues player, I don't have a lot of use for an octave pedal, so I really can't tell you all this box can do. Seems to track single fast runs very well, and it has solved my bass problem.

I tried the Danalectro mini octave pedal first and was HORRIFIED. I was concerned that all of the other octaves would have the same effect, but thank god I was WRONG. The Multiplexer was above and beyond. Not too many knobs to help you wreck your tone. Thank god I found this pedal.

Not Enough Stuff...

I am returning my Octave Multiplexer for a few reasons. I run my acoustic guitar through an array of pedals for performances. There is no level knob or any way to gauge the volume of the octave sound, so I had problems with the Multiplexer pushing to hard through my speakers. When notes are too low, such as a guitar's low E and F, octave pedals have trouble producing the note, especially this one. This is sometimes solved by reducing the level, however this pedal has no level control. It also runs on a 9 volt battery and did not run on the 9V power supply on my pedalboard. I had to replace the battery every few times I played. Also like most EHX pedals, it's bulky as hell. It measures about 6"x8" and takes up the space of two or more Boss style pedals on my pedal board. Compliments to EHX for good construction and sound, but I am going to with the Boss OC-3 because of better features and a more manageble sound.

I've tried a lot of octave pedals, and been disappointed as many times. Finally someone got it right! So many pedals have too many knobs that don't do enough; all flashy bells and whistles yet no balls or backbone! EH made the Octave Multiplexer with the perfect amount of control for the single lowered octave, and it sounds seriously Fat and Majestically BADRAD!!!

I bought the Octave Multiplexer about a year ago. I waited to right a review untill I had enough time to really see what it can do. Its a really great pedal. I use it all the time. I run it by itself alot. sometimes with an overdrive (I use a BD-2) and I have had really cool things happen with my DOD envelope filter. 2 things that I don't like, no light to let me know if its on. If i am running it with alot of bass I can hear its on, but sometimes you just need a little bit so you roll the blend to the guitar side and it gets hard to hear with the full band. The other thing is that it doesnt handle more the one note at a time very well. Try and hit two or more and you get a weird break-up, not really the easiest sound to describe. Although it can be a cool effect if used right. Overall a great pedal at a great price. A lot cooler then all the other ones I tried, and with a much cooler name.
