Very Dissapointed

I bought this pedal in hopes of getting a decent metal sound and was very dissapointed. To get any kind of a decent sound out of it you have to basically eq your amp so that the highs are almost completely gone. After that it sounds mediocre at best but when you click it off everything else sounds bad because of the lack of highs. I would only reccomend this pedal to a beginner who has no idea what good tone is and just wants something cheap with high gain. Anyone else I would advise to stay away.

i bought this pedal for some over-the-top distortion in adition to all my many overdrives. i wanted a punchy, and consuming sound, and the compact-ness of this pedal (and the price) sold me. the sound however, is nothing i thought. its very buzzy and 80's metal sounding. weak sauce in my opinion. Someone also said that by turning the gain low, you could get just some overdriven sounds out of this thing. WRONG. definetly nothing clost to any decent overdrive here, just metal. so thats whats up.

Good build quality, also having true-bypass is great. However, as an old-school rock musician I bought this metal pedal in order to get some more 'beef' & edgier hard rock tone, but plugged into my Roland Cube 30 all I got was a very thin, brittle, trebly "needles & pins" characteristic tone I could not dial out, even after toying with the mid-scoop switch. Big mistake! I have now returned it. So if you're into ear-piercing metal (or just love annoying people, watching them grimace and put their hands over their ears just for kicks) this might be the pedal for you. I only tried it with my equipment, perhaps if you have a very bass-heavy rig this might work out. But if you're into classic rock I'd look elsewhere. The flat, brittle treble tone you get when playing on the high strings makes this largely unusable for classic rock lead applications.

I really, really enjoy this pedal. It is much more versatile than it's name lets on. I love tagging it with a touch of Reverb and setting the distortion around 10 o'clock for sweet soloing... and no, it's not too 80's. A little more distortion and some sustaining barre chords sounds great too for throwing some punch in as a second guitar. Obviously it sounds great with power chords, hacking away at the top three strings (if that's your thing).

But there are a couple cons with this unit as well. If you turn the volume down past around 9 then it sound like some junk. Also, the mid switch doesn't just cut a big chunk out of the mids (like a scoop should) it also cuts a big chunk out of the volume... of course you aren't flipping that switch on the fly during a gig, so you're level will already be set if you like that sound... sort of a non-issue. The other thing, and it's a fairly small thing, is that, like MXR effects, the back has to be taken off to replace the battery... hope it doesn't die in the middle of a gig~! Yeowza~! It's compatible with the standard Boss PSA string adapter.
