Great pedal, a little pricey

i have owned this pedal for about a year and love it. i have a pro-co rat, a big muff and a tubescreamer. it took me a while to really like it, lots of tweeking... but now i never use any of the other distortions, or fuzzes. it's this, a guyatone mc-3 chorus in front and a crybaby used like a phaser on solos bringing up the rear through an old gibson tube amp.

Hot tubes not so hot

Don't waste your money, the tone & sound is not very good. I use a hot plate with my fender deville and that sounds better cranked. I would not recommend the hot tubes...It muddys up the tone & sound. I'm gonna trade it in on something.

So Smooth! So Hot! So Tubey!

The best distortion pedal ever made! I am a die-hard tube tone lover and I love this pedal. It is quite clean for an overdrive pedal. It is very smooth with the drive cranked or not cranked. It sounds great with a Marshall or a Fender style tube amp...Especially with a Fender. Crank the amp, and the crunch of the amp with the drive of the pedal come together and mke the best sound ever. I really recommend this for a tube and tone freak.

HOT TUBES TOO HOT
Posted by alazio from kansas city, MO on Aug 20, 2002
Experience w/product: I have used it
Reviewer's Background: active musician
Reviewer's Play Style: experimental
in playing this innovative pedal i realized one thing, hot tubes is too hot. the pedal has virtually 3 volume knobs: gain, overdrive and master(not to mention the other knobs). i played the pedal with the master totally off and once i barely tweaked it i unexpectedly received an instant earache. however, you can actually get this baby to sing anywhere from overdrive to the infamous big muff. it also has good stustain. obviously it does not run on 9v, but a 12v AC adapter. if you like ridiculously loud music and don't care if you melt your input jack, then get the pedal. if you're looking for great tone, sustain and versatility and don't mind tweaking for a long time to get it just right, then i suggest it also. for anyone else, don't bother.
