Top Right-facing Powersupply

And the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb brings the price down to earth, too. It will make believers with its emulation of classic spring reverb (so faithful even Dick Dale would be impressed). Its hall reverb is lush and spacious. And the Holy Grail Reverb has a flerb reverb that's a haunting sound like no other.

Check for true bypass

The first of these were not true bypass. Later models were but there is nothing distinguishing them on the outside. To check if it's true bypass remove the 4 screws on the top corners and look at the bottom of the footswitch. If it has 9 pins it has true bypass if it has 6 then it's not. The 9 pin switch bottom is usually blue and the 6 pin one is black.

Electro harmonix needs to step up quality control. the first one i got worked fine at the music shop, but was totally dead when i took it home. the second killed my signal big time. I have to jiggle the pedal to get it going. this is unacceptable for playing live gigs. i'm taking it back. Electro Harmonix usually makes awesome pedals but this just plain sucks. don't buy it.

Just what I was looking for

I was looking for more reverb than I get out of the small accutronics spring unit in my Reverend Goblin. I also wanted a Hall reverb to get a bigger sound in my office. This pedal fits the bill nicely. I put it in the effects loop. No hiss, no hum. I like simple pedals so this one with a single knob is perfect. I run a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster in front of the amp which also has only one knob. With these two pedals, my Les Paul and the Goblin (which has a schitzo switch) I can cover the gamut of guitar sounds and have great tone across them all. I'm not sure why others have hissing problems but I suspect it's the order of their pedals and their power supply / line. Hum is almost always the power supply and usually the outlet. I did find out that this pedal has a tip polarity that is reverse of most pedals so if you use it with other than the supplied power cord that would cause some serious problems and eventually fry the pedal. Buy it, use the supplied power adapter, and put it at the end of your pedal chain or better yet in an effects loop so it's after the pre-amp. You'll be in reverb heaven.

It really earns the 5 stars

The only non tube driven, spring reverb pedal/unit worth buying. I've used a lot of mediocre and flat out bad reverb pedals, especially digital ones. This one actually sounds good, and goes from subtle to more reverb than signal with a roll of the knob or a flip of the switch. The "flerb" is useless to me, although not a terrible idea. I use below 12 o clock for a nice sutle reverb, and about 3 o clock for some really cool reverb through distortion splats! I run it into the preamp, distortion and all! Great product, I gig with it regularly and I've never had a problem.

So I just got a new amp and it didn't have built in reverb, so I felt I NEEDED to have some. Looking at my local music store for something, the guy who worked there recommended this... Boy was it a good call. I plugged this in and it instantly added depth and life to my sterile sound. Now not only is this a good reverb, but it can make some of the coolest space noises ever. Just turn the one knob about 90% of the way up and start playing a note at a time, then prepare to have your mind blown. Turn it to about 50% and bam... Dick Dale status! This is kinda pricey for a pedal that only has one function, but if you don't have reverb something like this is a necessity. Play one for yourself and be the judge!
